Here is what we know so far:
A man targeted six people with a knife in Russell Square, central London, at around 10.30pm on Wednesday night.
A woman, believed to have been in her 60s, was fatally stabbed and pronounced dead at the scene.
A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Two women and three men suffered "various injuries" in the attack, with two remaining in hospital and the other three discharged.

Counter-terrorism officers are supporting the investigation into the incident, while Scotland Yard said early indications suggest mental health "was a factor". In an earlier statement police had said that terrorism was "one line of inquiry being explored".
The attack raises fears of IS targeting people with mental health problems to inspire them to carry out such incidents.

The official threat level from international terrorism currently stands at severe - indicating that an attack is highly likely.
Eyewitness Zuhair Awartani saw the attacker arrested and told the BBC: "He was like African... a dark-skinned man... late 20s probably."

This lady knifed to death was my daughter’s neighbor’s aunt. They got the phone call at my daughter’s house while they were over for dinner. The aunt and uncle were in London for a conference and were supposed to fly home today.

If the Russell Square knife attack is terror-related, it follows warnings that ISIS grooms people with mental health problems to inspire them to carry out murder.
The killing is currently being investigated by the Metropolitan Police's homicide team with the support of the force's counter-terrorism unit, but Scotland Yard said early indications suggested 'mental health is a significant factor in this case'.
It comes just days after a schizophrenic knifeman who tried to behead a Tube passenger during an Islamic State-inspired rampage was sent to Broadmoor high-security hospital to begin a life sentence.
Somali-born Muhiddin Mire, 30, targeted strangers at random in the ticket hall at Leytonstone Underground station in east London on December 5 last year.
He will serve a minimum of eight and a half years before being considered for parole.
But Mire could serve the entirety of his sentence at the psychiatric unit, which has housed some of the country's most notorious criminals.

The media can take a page from my local paper, a teen stabbed some people today for some unknown reason but race was definitely not a factor! Teen being code for minority they don’t want to name.
