Paul Manafort Acknowledges 'Conflict' Within the Trump Campaign Over Paul Ryan Endorsement
News ^ | 8/4/2016 | MORGAN WINSOR

Donald Trump's campaign chairman Paul Manafort acknowledged that "there's a conflict within the Trump campaign" over the Republican presidential nominee's hesitation to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin for reelection. But Manafort insisted that the two are "very good friends."

"Of course he's trying to bridge the party with Paul Ryan," Manafort told George Stephanopoulos on "Good Morning America." "But Paul Ryan is running against someone who's not going to win but is a strong supporter of Mr. Trump."

In an interview with The Washington Post on Tuesday, Trump refused to endorse for reelection Republicans who have criticized him, such as Ryan and Sen. John McCain of Arizona. He also praised Ryan’s GOP opponent, Paul Nehlen, for running “a very good campaign.”

“I’m just not quite there yet,” Trump said of backing Ryan.

Haven’t read every word of this article, but generally missing from the misreporting on this story is:

1. Trump is now the nominee and Ryan certainly never endorsed Trump during the primaries, and Ryan has played games and tried to damage Trump since Trump won the primaries.

2. Ryan is still in his primary contest and neither Trump nor any other Republican has an obligation to take sides in primary races.

And Ryan has generally acted like a pompous ass since Trump won the nomination. There is NO reason Trump should have positive feelings toward Ryan.

Pence has a history with Ryan, failing to endorse him would have fueled a different fire.

He should endorse the winner AFTER the primary.

Hey, Man-a-fort tell the hand wringing advisers that Trump speaks for US.. We the people, agree with him about lying Ryan, the Syrian rebel importer. We are done with the political covering up for their political hacks. And tell Newt he does better at teaching history than making history!

Nehlen didn’t do himself any favors on Fox and Friends this a.m. They asked him to introduce himself and he ignored that and immediately started in with the anti-Ryan talking points, talking about Ryan supporting illegal aliens over veterans and bailing out Puerto Rico, etc. Maybe valid points, but his repeating them over and over and saying nothing about himself, his background or his business accomplishments left him appearing completely robotic and disconnected.

I’d vote for a ham sandwich over Ryan.

Manafort is doing nothing more than acknowledging what is already widely known, that Trump is not endorsing Ryan, but Pence is due to their long standing relationship going back to their days in Congress. This is a nothing sandwich.

If Nehlen beats Ryan (from my keyboard to God’s flat panel), it eliminates a back stabbing RINO that has fallen all over themselves to lick Obama’s ass, giving him everything he wants, and we do NOT need that clown three heartbeats away from the Presidency.

GO NEHLEN GO!!!

He's not running for President. He's running for a seat in Congress from some podunk rinky-dink district in Wis. The people in his district probably already know who he is.

He doesn't need to waste precious air time on national television to "introduce himself" to a bunch of self-serving clowns waiting to pounce and discredit him...like you just did.

Ryan did at least give a mild endorsement of the Trump/Pence ticket at the RNC, which Ted Cruz-as-in-'lose' did not do. I don't like to see republicans take sides in contest like these. I don't mind Trump not endorsing Ryan (or McCain or any other RINO), but I don't think he should make a point of saying he won't endorse Ryan. I think the top of the ticket should stay neutral in spite of what they really feel.

Me too! I find Ryan despicable as well as all those who support him in his open borders campaign.

Lying Ryan was out in the Rockie Mountain ‘high’ receiving high $$$$fives at Red the Erickson's so called billionaires ‘neverTrump’ retreat. These pre-tend conservatives have been outed as political hacks. The bunch of them are like melting snowflakes, that dish out but run for the tall grass when they get their own words returned upon them.

I fail to see the problem. Trump said verbatim about Ryan what Ryan said about him after he was over the top in delegates. “I’m just not quite there yet,”.
Ryan said the same exact thing in early May, long after Trump had clinched the delegates and all other campaigns were suspended!

How could that possibly be unfair to say exactly the same thing.

Isn’t Manafort already a bed buddy with the globalist 4 you named?

Trump needs to muzzle his own mouth and realize that the establishment whores are still whores even if he pays them to help his campaign.

"He should endorse the winner AFTER the primary."

historically this is the way it has always been done for presidential or national party endorsements. the MSM has made an issue out of trump doing right.

I agree that Ryan is a scumbag. But Trump could lose some votes for POTUS because some misguided fool who supports Ryan may now decide to not vote for Trump. Yes, RINOs like Ryan should be defeated, but I don't think Trump should be involved at this stage.

Pence has a history with Ryan, failing to endorse him would have fueled a different fire.

That may be an important point, although it isn’t clear to me what political fire would have been fueled by a Pence silence or even a, “that is a matter for the voters of the state to consider”.

In any event, one should expect that Pence discussed the matter with Trump beforehand and that the latter was comfortable with the endorsement. That may have even been one of the conditions when Trump selected Pence; they certainly would have discussed Ryan’s apparent betrayal and what Trump had in mind.
