40,000 Russian troops are massing on the country’s border with Ukraine – prompting fears of a new military invasion.
The Pentagon has identified eight staging areas dotted along the border, suggesting Russian strongman Vladimir Putin is preparing for new incursions.
Fears are growing that Russia is planning new excursions into neighbouring Ukraine
Among the units deployed to the area are armoured vehicles, tanks and fighter jets.
Navy Captain Danny Hernandez told the Washington Free Beacon that the exercises were being closely monitored.
He said: “We are extremely concerned about the increasing tensions near the administrative boundary between Crimea and the rest of Ukraine.
“We urge both sides to avoid provocative steps or rhetoric that could escalate the situation.”
Officials told the publication similar movements were seen before Vladimir Putin carried out his deceptive annexation of the Crimea.
Such manoeuvres have reduced the “warning time” available to the US if he decides to launch another attack.

Crimea is Russian! Everyone needs to get that through their thick skulls.
Russia does not want Ukraine...it’s a basket case. they just don’t want NATO in Ukraine.
Looks like Turkey may be the new pipeline route for Russian gas..good! Let Ukraine buy their own gas and stop siphoning gas from the pipelines going through their country.
All anyone needs to know is that Obama is on the side of Ukraine... that means they are the wrong people to support. This logic always holds true.. Obama caused the Ukraine mess because he was humiliated by Putin when Putin forced him to back down from use of force in Syria by eliminating the chemical weapons stockpile...Obama had a hard-on to kill Assad and stick in a Muslim Brotherhood government...same as he did in Egypt.

Actually Russia doesn’t care if Western Ukraine, especially the part that used to belong to Poland, joins NATO. Not nearly as many Russians in that part of the country.
I always thought the best solution would have been a “Velvet Divorce” like what happened to Czechoslovakia.

This is a tough situation. Russia needs Ukraine, it’s steel, it’s agriculture,and its warm water ports as examples.Ukrainians in central and western Ukraine don’t want the Russians there. Ukraine has corruption issues and other problems, but the quality of life there is much better than in Russia.
Don’t forget, Ukraine is the home of the Russian Orthodox Church. /s
