Pentagon can’t account for $6.5 trillion of taxpayer money – IG report
RT ^ | 08/20/16

The Pentagon failed to account for $6.5 trillion in its financial statement, a recently-recovered Inspector General’s report on the 2015 fiscal year said. It reveals the audit of the Department of Defense was “materially misstated.”

The army failed to provide “accurate, complete, timely and well-supported” documents that could have explained the use of trillions of dollars in quarterly and yearend adjustments.

The US military made $2.8 trillion in wrongful adjustments in one quarter alone in 2015, and $6.5 trillion for the year, but could not provide anything that would detail what it spent the money on.

There were a total of 64,321 journal voucher (JV) adjustments made in the third quarter and 142,355 by the yearend, but only 7,083 of them were supported with detailed documentation of transactions.

The IG has also found that 16,513 of 1.3 million records were “removed” from the Pentagon’s budget system during the third quarter of the 2015 fiscal year.

“Without support for why these records were removed, we could not determine whether the records continued valid transactions,” the IG said, adding that the Defense Finance and Accounting Service Indianapolis (DFAS Indianapolis) could not explain why the files were removed.

At the same time, data that Army General Funds (AGF) cited in its financial reports in both the third quarter and yearend “were unreliable and lacked an adequate audit trail,” which are necessary to confirm “accuracy, completeness and timeliness” of transactions, the Department of Defense Inspector General found.

How do you lose over 6 Trillion dollars? Sounds to me either there is A LOT of looting going or the money is being sent somewhere illegally.

I am not saying that the Pentagon is perfect, but I say they are doing this to justify huge cuts in military spending if Hillary gets in.

If this were China, certain members of the Obama administration would be executed.

How could this money be missing? It isn't. The last person to sign off on the spending should be held personally responsible for the money. And Obama, as Commander and Chief of the Armed Forces should also be personally responsible!

I think this is total BS. The defense budget since 96 has been just over 10 Trillion. From the article: “The US military made $2.8 trillion in wrongful adjustments in one quarter alone in 2015, and $6.5 trillion for the year, but could not provide anything that would detail what it spent the money on.”

Hell the budget for 2015 was under 700 billion, how do you lose 2.8 trillion in one quarter with a budget of .6 Trillion?

Now on the other side of the coin, the GVT is too good at losing money, as the joke goes they couldn't even make a profit on a whore house. Only the US GVT would set things up such that they get rid of prime real estate (e.g., Fort Ord) and pay the city of Monterrey 100 Million to take it.

I think this an attempt to put Hillary's $6 billion loss at the DOS in the noise. But they overdid it.

The Pentagon ... as well as the entire American hierarchy of political criminals are about to be seriously busted.

President Trump's biggest problem will be finding enough honest and patriotic Americans to fill the seats he vacates.

a LOT (I hope and pray) of positions will be eliminated altogether.

Doesn’t pass the smell test. The ENTIRE DoD budget since 1996 is CUMULATIVELY $10.1 trillion. CUMULATIVE Army budget is ~32% of total or $3.2 trillion.

Something smells. This is either an attempt to embarrass the Army so the budget can be cut OR the auditors haven’t got a clue.

It is just Russian spin and misrepresentation.

The way I understand it is that if a $10k piece of gear moves through the pipeline where 10 transfer papers are made and 3 of these, for good or bad reasons, file it in some way that the auditors are not happy with it has created $30k worth of “wrongful adjustments” on the way. Nevermind that it ended up where it was supposed to.
