I was reading Rush's transcripts and saw this mentioned. I found it interesting, and it actually surprised me because Chris Christie had been with him from early on, and so I assumed he fully supported Trump's plan. There was no indication of any wavering at all until the meeting with Hispanics, Kellyanne saying in an interview that the deportation force was TBD, and Trump's comments in the Townhall with Hannity over this past week. It sounds as though Christie (and some others) have been pushing him behind the scenes, telling him to moderate. I would assume they have two reasons - 1. They think it will help him win with moderates. 2. They are being "compassionate" conservatives.

"I will tell you that most folks that I've met in my state who have come here to this country illegally, have come here because they want to work," Christie said at a town hall in Londonderry, N.H., that same month. "Because they want to support themselves, they want to support their families."

At one time I suggested Chris Christie for VP if it was between him and Mike Pence. I was obviously very wrong. I have come to eat my crow. Pence is doing a great job, even though he does define himself as a "compassionate" conservative. I don't like that term because it hearkens me back to George Bush.

Ann Coulter would probably be surprised by this because she thought he had recently added new consultants that urged him to change, but Ann would be shocked that it's Christie who has been there for months. Didn't Ann once support Christie for President?

He indicated a softening at the Hannity Townhall when he seemed to indicate that if someone was here for 20 years they could stay but without citizenship and would have to pay back taxes. However, at his rally the next night and in his interview with Anderson, he seemed to revert back to his initial position. According to Giuliani, he hasn't made a firm decision yet, although Giuliani thinks he'll support a guest worker program for livestock and farm workers who entered illegally once the border is secure.

We know Trump will build the wall and will deport the criminals. I do think that with e-verify, cutting off benefits, and cutting off sanctuary cities (all things Trump wants to do), you will have a lot of people leave. His website also says he wants to end birthright citizenship, so that is going to end people coming and having anchor babies.

What we have to see is what he is going to do about the people still here who aren't criminals (other than the fact they are breaking immigration law). I look forward to his speech.

By the way, Chris Christie will be on ABC Sunday Morning with Martha Raddatz. Let's see if she asks him about this article.

When you turn the milk into .1% milk and honey into lightly sugared water, that 'land of milk and honey (and benefits)' doesn't look so good. IF YOU CUT OFF the incentives like medical care, benefits, etc. they will find some other county...I'm hoping Norway or Sweden or somewhere.

I think what surprised me the most was the when Trump asked the audience during Hannity’s town hall, the heartier response was for allowing them to remain. Many wanted them all deported, but the majority wanted the more “compassionate” route.

I think there are consequences when one breaks the law. It may take some time for them to unfold (think Cosby), but eventually it will catch up. Oh, except if your name is Clinton.

“Trumps big immigration reversal” Oh yes, and let’s not forget “Trump flip flops” printed all over the liberal media for the last week. Then I see an interview with Trump on CNN with Anderson Cooper, and gee whiz wouldn’t you know it - His immigration policy is exactly the same as when he first announced he was running for POTUS. This is exactly what he talked about and in the order it was spoken......

1. He’s going to build a wall, Mexico is going to pay for it.

2. People here illegally who are convicted of crimes will be first on the list to be deported.

3. Everyone who is here illegally must leave and can then apply to come here legally.

REVERSAL ON IMMIGRATION? FLIP FLOPPING? WHERE IS IT?

The MSM sets up an extreme position and then claims that the candidate is weakening when the candidate doesn’t follow that exact position.

Christie-inspired ... call for tracking immigrant visas like Fedex packages...

No, that is at least a Newt meme... heard Newt speak about this more than 10 years ago.

If you will read what Donald said instead of the reporter’s terminology,he[Donald Trump] did not say anything. This is just one more case of a reporter or reporters taking what Donald says out of context, adding words of their own, twisting the facts, omitting words spoke by Donald.

Last summer, Trump vowed to employ a "deportation force" to expel all undocumented immigrants from the U.S.

Reference?

“He indicated a softening at the Hannity Townhall when he seemed to indicate ...”

“seemed” and “indicated” does not mean “said” or “declared.”

I saw the Hannity town hall, and Trump was responding directly to a question about kicking people out who have been here for decades and have a job and families.

So, instead of “softening,” what’s Trump GOING to say? “GET ‘EM OUT OF HERE!”? Really? The media would have torn the “heartless” candidate apart, and suggested he wants to be the next Hitler, with gangs of roving (U)SS troopers searching block-to-block for illegal aliens so we could kick them back over the border with their jack-boots.

In other words, Hannity, of all people, managed to trap Trump with a lose / lose question.

Now the media is on to stage 2 (or 3) - making up conspiracy theories to explain Trump’s “apparent” change of mind, and trying to find someone else behind the unexplained use of a single word on a talk show. They are vile, and to pay attention to them is to buy right into it.

Trump needs to do exactly what I think he IS doing this weekend - firming up his exact plans on how to deal with illegal immigrants, and then make a clear speech on it, so there won’t be any doubt what he thinks about it and what he plans to do. Say something they CAN’T spin and go over the empty heads of the media yet again.

Meanwhile, Hillary will continue to hide - not appearing at rallies, not giving press conferences, not giving town halls, not giving meaningful speeches - maybe just appearing with a comedian somewhere to open a pickle jar, and, to the vile media, this is all as it should be, and nothing should or will be said about it.

No way it’s only 11 million illegals... It’s got to be twice that, easily.

It seems many forget that to govern, you have to start by winning the election.

You can’t win in without attracting enough voters.

Many people want their POTUS to be kind and compassionate and reasonable - hence the support for the other primary candidates. Each was the preferred choice of some, but not enough to win. Women, in particular -at least suburban women - need to trust the guy. I’ve also met men with the same idea - especially those who are not strongly ideological. They want to trust someone.

Going forward, Trump’s team must realize they need Republican votes and have to get them on board. Attracting media attention and attracting voters are not identical. If he changes words to make his message appeal to more voters, I think he is smart.

AND .. President Eisenhower (”IKE”), DEPORTED 6 MILLION AFTER HE BECAME PRESIDENT.

Don’t say it can’t be done. Maybe somebody could dig out those records and see what IKE did in order to deport 6 million people.

ANYBODY WHO SAYS IT CAN’T BE DONE .. THEY’RE REALLY ROOTING FOR AMNESTY.

When your opponent attempts to portray you as a scary uncaring racist, a good defense is too appear more caring, less scary, and less racist.

Trump is too smart to get button holed by the left or the right.

Christie was in the debates up to when? March.

And Christie said in one of the debates that deporting 11 million aliens would be impossible.

So, I find this article a bit questionable, Trump was already well aware of how his position was different and more popular than Christie’s.
