On March 3, 2016 Senator Ted Cruz told the FOX News debate audience he would support Donald Trump if he was the Republican nominee.

Bret Baier: Senator Cruz will you support Donald Trump if he is the nominee?

Senator Ted Cruz: Yes, because I gave my word I would. And what I have endeavored to do every day in the senate is do what I said I would do.

But Ted Cruz is not a man of integrity.

LYIN TED CRUZ refused to endorse Donald Trump at the RNC Convention.

And now his supporters are running anti-Trump ads in swing states. They are openly campaigning for Hillary Clinton.

“You’re backing a loser, my boy.”

Perhaps. But there a lot of other candidates I am much more concerned about getting rid of. People like McCain. That is where the effort needs to be focussed in fixing the Republican party.

Do the Freepers posting their disdain of Cruz and the other Conservative Standard Bearers really believe that once President Trump is in office, their animosity and flaming rhetoric will be instantly forgotten by those who have been flamed.

"Conservative Standard Bearers" my ass.

A more arrogant, self righteous bunch of gargoyles cannot be found in American politics. These scrofulous miscreants should far more be concerned that WE will not forget their unforgivable perfidy.

Agreed. People need to keep in mind that half the country does not vote. That means that it takes a little over 25% of the voting population to determine the makeup of our federal government.

Unless the plan is to establish a fascist regime to force one’s political views on everyone else, persuasion is the key to winning.

The idea of retaliating for anything other than criminal actions is foolish. And it is the very thing that the Never Trump people are doing. Are we supposed to respond in like manner? Obviously not.

“You are essentially saying that if Cruz had won the nomination, it would be better to elect Hillary.”

No; I am not saying that, “essentially” or otherwise. When it comes to the Presidency, Cruz would be better than Hillary. I would have voted for him.

A big problem is that nobody is more aware of Cruz’ vulnerability regarding eligibility than the Clinton/Obama cabal. If Cruz were to be the nominee they’d have destroyed him, and us along with him. Never mind Obama’s issues with eligibility; they’d have taken out our candidate.

I am thinking this never trump movement is a bit like the time in the Bible where Solomon had to decide the custody of a baby where two women claimed to be the mother.

Thanks for ^that^!

If you're familiar with Star Trek: TNG, I've been trying to "Darmok" the events of the day with stories in Scripture like how the Tamarians communicated in the "Darmok" episode.

Good call. I think you nailed it.

So you want to get rid of McCain. LOL! BOTH McCain and Rubio were among the GANG of EIGHT with such marvelous company as Jeff Flake, Ariz.,and Lindsay Graham S. Carolina. You want to get rid of one but keep the other? Marco would grow up to be another McCain. He has no morals.I insist we get rid of ALL of THEM!

“How about FAILING to support his Party’s nominee? Especially after he pledged to do so?”

Well I am grateful for Free Republic because I would not even know he did so if I only got my info from MSM and Fox. Yes, he should be held accountable for that.

“So take your sanctimonious preaching about going to throw out every ‘conservative’ who failed in ‘some’ way and stuff it!”

The time may come to burn the nation down and start over, but if you really want to get Trump elected I suggest focussing on that instead of attacking your allies.

“True Conservative (whatever the hell that means)”

That’s the problem. Too many around here have either forgotten what conservatism is or never learned it up until now.”
..

Ok, I’ve heard this “true conservative” over and over again applied to Cruz, but I’ve never heard anyone say what a “true conservative” is.
So what is your definition of a “true conservative”?

I’m pro-life, believe in capitalism, would never have voted for the Iran deal to be fast tracked, Would not have written an article in WSJ praising TPP. Cruz saw nothing wrong with reading it behind close doors. Would be very upset if my spouse was a member of the Counsel of Foreign Relations and co-authored the paper on the North American Union. Would not have blamed Trump because of the violent anti-Trump Soros-paid disruptors.

What makes Cruz a “true conservative”?

“If Trump wins, Cruz is going to cause him problems in the Senate. Mark my woids.”

I think you are right about that.

“Cruz were to be the nominee they’d have destroyed him”

Perhaps. We just need to focus on getting Trump in office. Cruz is going to remain a senator for at least a little while. And he is going to be watched very closely. I think it is very unlikely he will get another chance for the white house. His best shot was being Trump’s VP, but he turned his nose up at that.

My biggest problem with Cruz, among many was that he was very uninspiring and struck me as a bad leader. As the walls came in on him, it became more apparent that he was very spiteful.

He might be a rock solid conservative, I doubt he is. I think it was all an act. But, for you to call Trump supporters “politically naive” it demonstrates the same arrogance that Cruz embellished in his campaign. Many of us may be naive, but we still know what a bad leader looks like.

I agree. Obama provided a phony birth certificate eventually, but for some reason, Cruz supporters don’t see any problem with Cruz’ double or triple citizenship. He only gave up his Canadian citizenship a year or so ago.
There was never a Consular report provided. If his mother didn’t apply for one at birth, she probably applied for it when he was 16 and needed a passport.

I think there is a good possibility that she is actually Canadian and applied for Canadian citizenship at the same time as his father. Obama may have the Canadian records on Cruz’ family.

“I insist we get rid of ALL of THEM!”

Well, I was just giving McCain as an example. Sure, Lindsay Graham has been a thorn in the side of conservatives even more than McCain. And Rubio rode the wave of Tea Party patriotism into office in order to immediately stab us in the back with his attempted amnesty.

I agree. Primary them out. But don’t replace them with someone worse. I would prefer Rubio and even McCain to the Democrat alternatives. Not sure a Dem would be any worse than Graham, but it is possible.

If he is actually in anyway behind this, he has done more than abdicate leadership. He will have demonstrated a mental block that interferes with his ability to reason. If Mrs. Clinton were to be elected, the deck will be totally stacked against any Republican in any future Presidential election, Just look at the combination of demographic factors involved.

This idiocy has all the logic behind it as had the mass suicide at Jonestown, Guiana. It is very hard to just accept this. I really thought that Cruz shared my values, but just let ambition & the obsessive Glen Beck get the better of him.

If this is really true, I owe everyone here an apology for urging consideration for both Trump & Cruz up until early 2016.

Trump is the true Conservative. He really does get it. (The Issue.)

I think Cruz has some interest in TPP going through - perhaps his wife’s connections.

I knew Cruz was a fraud when he was asked about his non-existent charitable giving to his church, and elsewhere.

He explained that they were concentrating on building a solid foundation for their family, now that they have two daughters. So, even if you earn over 6 figures, you cannot afford to give any away if you have children. Snake.

“for you to call Trump supporters ‘politically naive’ it demonstrates the same arrogance that Cruz embellished in his campaign. Many of us may be naive, but we still know what a bad leader looks like.”

First, I AM A TRUMP supporter.

Second, my comment is NOT directed at all Trump supporters. I think it is awesome that Trump is getting people involved in the democratic process who are ordinarily turned off because of the lying politicians who are in it for their own personal enrichment. Trump doesn’t need the money, and if he was seeking the office to get richer, he would have run as a Democrat where thieves like the Clintons are welcome. We are fortunate to have someone who wants the office to actually serve the public interest. That is rare. Which brings me to...

Number three. For those who are naive about politics, it is NOT an insult but an observation. Those of us who have been around a while have seen a lot of nastiness, a lot of dirty tricks, a lot of dishonesty. We are a bit jaded perhaps. I can remember the pettiness of the Clintonistas when Bush won. They ripped all of the W’s off the all the computer keyboards.

If Trump loses, I almost think I will be permanently jaded. Honestly, I think I may start to aggressively look for work elsewhere, because I think Hillary will do that much damage.

During the primaries, a lot of Cruz supporters kept bashing Trump supporters because we complained about the Colorado primary. Sure we didn’t know all the details that went on there, but the process didn’t seem to coincided with the American principle of a free election. We are aware that the GOP is a private organization.

It is good that you are a Trump supporter. I think he will make a better president than Cruz, and certainly better than Obama and Clinton.

You are assuming there are no REPUBLICAN alternatives. There are FOUR Republicans running for Rubio’s seat. The election is today. You choose to ignore PRIMARIES and WHAT THEY ARE FOR!
McCain is in a tough primary today, but you have given up already. You people who are always play it safers miss half the boat. You think Trump needs Rubio, but I don’t. I am NOT going to change my mind and I’ve plenty of experience behind my reasoning. I worked for Eisenhower’s reelection. I’ve seen a lot of politician come and go and I know certain tactics are like a worn out love, they just ain’t worth the effort any more.
