Too many unwise fools voted in fellow unwise fools and so foolish decisions were made in the nation that effects us all. Still some people will never wise up and will refuse the light of truth. What it is— we would rather live apart from those who refuse to be wise and sane. At least I do.
Realistically speaking, taking a blue-collar hourly-wage job at a factory has seldom been the road to affluence and financial independence. It may have been OK for a while after Europe was flattened and the rest of the world went Communist, but such a situation cannot last forever.
The article says that they were eager to get a job at the plant, and used their influence to get in. This was because during this era, the pay was out of line with the difficulty of the work. To make similar money in a white-collar profession, you had to go to college and study for four years, and when you came out and started working you still wouldn’t make as much as the factory worker.
So guys who had both the brains and the manual skill to do something much better rushed into factory work. They didn’t like the jobs, because they were not challenged by the work. It was just a way to put in hours and make money.
Meanwhile, those who went into the white-collar world had interesting and challenging work, and could advance themselves if they had it in them. Even skilled manual workers, self-employed plumbers, electricians, and contractors, had more of chance to use all their skills and get ahead.
I remember back in 1964, my father hired a young electrician who had just gotten his license to wire our new house. In the late 90s, I remember going by his place; he had a big building with 20 panel trucks in the parking lot with his company name on them. Meanwhile, the factory workers just stamped out widgets on the assembly line, and waited for the day they could retire.
I remember King William asserting the American economy should be entirely white-collar/information-based; we shouldn’t even grow our own food, rather let the unskilled labor in the rest of the world do that.
I’m an X’er, and I’ve had my prime working years spent under Obama, so I have to make up for lost time.
My parents were in their 30s under Reagan, and both combined, as factory workers with HS educations, were making 6 figures.
I’m barely able to work full-time. Full-time that has been defined down to comply with Obamacare.
With Hillary, I’m going underground. No money for that banshee.
Nobody’s saying all jobs are interesting or equally rewarding. But we definitely need a whole lot more of them ( jobs!!!!) and some folks like factory jobs ( and if we get some factory jobs it will mean we’re more productive and self- sufficient again as a nation) I vote for jobs jobs jobs! For Ttump. And definitely not Hilliary
I was one of those in their 30’s when Reagan was president. Not only were there expanding employment opportunities but there was a general feeling of security and confidence knowing we had a real and good capable man as president. Many of us are hoping for a rekindling of that if/when Trump becomes president. One thing though is we have far more leftist and foreign ash hole types now than back in the 80’s.
If I’m not mistaken (as a railfan), Berwick made lots of railroad freight cars...
Keep voting Democrat so you can lose it all
[I grew up in PA. Graduated in 1976. That was a great summer, the bicentennial. Nevermind...]
Graduated in 1980. It was an excellent fall that year.
...PA people need to take a course called Connect the Dots....
Not all of us, brother.
PA isnt all Philly and Pittsburgh.>>> even Philly isn’t all philly
.>>> even Philly isnt all philly
But it’s getting there real fast
Then you’d be acting like the enemies.
It’s the devil’s trick... blame the Other Guy, don’t look at where you are before God.
Shooting second may save you from the law but shooting first may save your life.
“...even Philly isnt all philly...”
True that.
Ain’t the city I grew up in, for sure......
. I’m retired and want to protect my nest egg.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I’m in that same boat and scared to death about what happens to our “nest egg” should that vile woman somehow win.
That’s an excellent post. I’ve never seen multi-generational employment in a factory as an indicator of a strong economy.
F em
>>>PA isnt all Philly and Pittsburgh<<<
Well, it is on Election Day.
Yup. We finally are enjoying the fruits of our labor, in retirement. That vile woman has promised many entitlements in her first 100 days after election. Those entitlements she is giving away to illegals who never earned them, will come from government stealing our 401k's and other investments. She wants to fund free college for everyone (meaning illegals), wants to forgive college loans (with our tax money), give free medical care to illegals (something that was promised wouldn't happen with Obamacare), among other freebies to be handed out immediately after the election.
Trump promises to make things great again. Might or might not happen. But Hillary's own statements about giving away freebies is a certainty to steal away our money to pay for it all. Because the country is broke and the money must come from us to fund her dreams, which are our nightmares. Was talking to my older sister a couple nights ago. She says she and her husband are going traveling and will spend all their money before the Democrats get their hands on it. If you can't protect it, try to spend it on yourself.
