Seahawks’ Jeremy Lane sits during national anthem in Oakland

In the first Seahawks game since San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sat during the national anthem last Friday, one Seattle player followed suit Thursday — cornerback Jeremy Lane.

Lane sat throughout the anthem before Seattle’s final preseason game Thursday at Oakland.

It was not immediately clear if Lane was showing solidarity with Kaepernick or had other reasons. The team had no immediate comment.

Teammates did not appear to react in any way to Lane, other than Richard Sherman, who sat next to Lane and chatted with him briefly after the anthem ended. Lane then got up and played at cornerback during the first series of the game.

Lane is a fifth-year veteran from Northwestern (La.) State who was drafted by Seattle in the fifth round in 2012. He signed a new four-year deal worth $23 million in March after having been an unrestricted free agent. He is competing for the starting job as the starting right cornerback but also serves as the team’s primary nickelback.

Lane is from Tyler, Texas.

No other players on either side appeared to sit.

The anthem was performed by Mike Phillips, a saxophonist who has performed with Prince, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.

Lane’s action did not appear to draw much of a reaction from spectators, though given the location of the bench many may not have noticed. Lane was the last Seahawk to take the field for the second half, doing so after play had resumed (starters had already been removed) and jogged lightly in front of the end zone crowd to get back to the Seattle bench. But there didn’t appear to be any visible reaction from those in attendance.

The NFL is starting to turn into the NBA. A bunch of smart ass overpaid punks that maybe have 2 functioning brain cells each. I stopped caring about the NBA 10 years ago, haven't missed it a bit. I'm absolutely sure I can do the same with NFL. When liberal, anti-country, anti-God crap gets shoved at me I shove back. Screw you NFL, ESPN, NBA, and all the rest of you traitorous bastards.

I saw on Fox News tonight that Krap-Knucklehead wore socks to practice that had images of cartoon pigs on them. What a POS.

I saw the same thing. I wish Krapperdick needed the assistance of the police, and instead of responding, they sat down and did nothing to help him in a "free expression" of themselves.

Based on how Goodell has responded to things in the past, it would not surprise me to see the NFL do away with the National Anthem and opening ceremonies. Goodell is too PC to stand up to this kind of behavior from a member of the protected group.

Told you this would spread ... gonna take some boycotting to get this under control ...

The League needs to step in. Otherwise, BLM is about to destroy the cash cow that is the NFL.

Pete Carroll, Seahawks head coach

Oh, sorry. Still, if Pete Carroll were to "do something", there are probably 15-20 other head coaches out there who wouldn't do jack.

If you want this silliness to stop, the hammer has to come from New York and Emperor Goodell's office. But, knowing how he's all about money, don't expect to hear anything but crickets coming from him.

American? public does not have the ‘class’ or ‘guts’ to dump the entire football leagues and stay away from the games these teams have these traitors playing for—better men have died to give them a free country to make millions and then thumb their rotten noses at the anthem that honors our past dead as well as the living—they can all kiss my 94 year old ass and the service I gave in WW2 to allow such garbage to exist in my country—cheers
