Sorry, but this is not a valid argument. Life expectancy AT BIRTH may have been in the forties, but only because of very high percentage of childbirth deaths, and deaths in infancy. Life expectancy at marriageable age was not so much different from now, perhaps a decade or so shorter. There has never been a period in Western history where people who lived long enough to procreate could not expect to live through their child bearing years, so this does not explain why people married at a much younger age in the past. Also, marriages during early teen years did not only occur "thousands of years ago". During the late 1800s in the USA, marriage at this age was still quite common, and I have ancestors just two generations back to prove it. I would say that people had to accept more responsibility at an earlier age, so that by the time you reached 15/16 you were ready to accept all the responsibilities of an adult.

I’m no expert on this child-teen sex stuff, but I see that entertainment is moving the society to the gradual acceptance of younger sex partners.
There are sexual references in many movies and “sit-coms.” The kids see it so much it’s getting normalized. And this sex stuff isn’t about procreation. It’s about having recreational sex. This is not good for any society, and I believe its getting worse.

That’s based on an AVERAGE age which was heavily weighed down by childhood diseases. Before vaccines you had a ~20%-30% chance of dying before adulthood. For adults not fighting in war, the average was not much different from today.
I have family records going back to the early 1800s. MANY deaths before the age of 10. Most adult men in my family died in war or accidents but the remainder all lived past 70. Average lifetime for women in my family was 85-90. That was with zero modern medicine.
And all the women were married in their teens until around the 1950s (when industrialization came to the USSR). Average marrying age in my family was about 17 before then

If they account for abortions, the “average” age would be closer to 50 today.
That being said, life before modern medicine was pure hell. Can you imagine the filth... well, look at any third world country today. That was life 100 years ago. Open sewage everywhere, shoes filled with filth, no dental hygiene, epidemics everywhere, no pain killers... and no AC! Why would anyone back then want to live past 40 baffles me.

That is the single most misinterpreted and misquoted factoid of all time.
The AVERAGE life expectancy was 35-50ish years mainly because of the infant and child mortality rates! Granted workplace accidents accounted for some of the early deaths in the age group you cite, but folks who avoided dangerous situations lived pretty close to the same lifespan.
Example: My father, his brother and their father all died between that ages of 75 and 77, but they had two siblings that died at under one year of age. The AVERAGE age at death therefore becomes 37.5 years for the children, or 48.5 for all five.
There were LOTS of 60-70+ folks back then too, but because so many died so young, the averages are seriously skewed.
As for the maturing of the human mind, gaining responsibility at earlier ages, as happened then, could only enhance and strengthen the developement of adult thought processes at earlier ages, rather than the snowflakes that our over-protective helicopter society is currently turning out in droves.

You must descend from rural nobility, otherwise it is just Golden Age fallacy. The peasants tilling somebody else’s land were definitely filthy. Without soap, air conditioning or any modern essentials, and the cultural aversion to bathing, not to mention hard labor all day, the bygone era peasant man must reek to high heavens.

situations like this are one reason that a single man who had violated a single woman was expected to keep her as a wife for his entire life. liberals scream in shock at this and say they have found proof that the bible treats women as property. i am not so sure. divorce was not the symmetrical thing it is today, with no fault and the like. it was one partner taking initiative to “put away” the other partner. very asymmetrical. it ensured that the woman would be supported. if the woman who had been thus violated, if against her will, never engaged in sex again with the man, maybe she still had the option to “put away” the cad if she later found a suitable suitor. i really don’t know, but such a rule would make sense today. the man would be free to work, but still obligated to the woman he had violated unless SHE chose to marry somebody else. jared would be out of jail but still supporting this girl if such a rule applied today. but idle hands do the devil’s work.
