Revolution against 'rich parasites' at utopian Burning Man Festival as 'hooligans' attack(T)

It is supposed to be a utopian vision of peace and love but this year's Burning Man Festival has been marred by "hooligans" carrying out a "revolution against rich parasites".

The festival plays out each year in Nevada's Black Rock Desert where 70,000 people build a city in a week, burn a giant wooden effigy of a man, and then restore the arid playa to its original state.

In recent years it has become popular with Silicon Valley millionaires, and billionaires. Luxurious so-called "plug-n-play" camps have sprung up which use hired staff like cooks, builders and security, and allow international jetsetters to drop in for quick visits.

Many traditional "Burners" claim that is a betrayal of the spirit of "radical self-reliance" that is a cornerstone of the festival, which began in 1986.

As anger boiled over one camp called White Ocean, which hosts high profile DJs on a state-of-the-art stage, became the focus of anger.

The camp first made an appearance at Burning Man three years ago and its founders included the British DJ Paul Oakenfold and the son of a Russian billionaire.

A band of hooligans raided our camp, stole from us, pulled and sliced all of our electrical lines leaving us with no refrigeration and wasting our food, and glued our trailer doors shut.

That was the first thing I’ve ever seen out of Quiznos that makes me like them. And I’m not even anti-burn, but I still think it’s funny.

Crisp air for the scantily clad participants. But, most of them are back in town trying to get out today.

That’s what they get for letting those black lives matter types run the show.

Wouldn’t they be more up in the hills and small mountains, instead of on the flat plain?

I don’t blame the hooligans for doing this. Burning Man is not something that I would do, However, the mega rich need a sensitivity chip. A small example of why this would anger people was an experience I had this summer.
Every year my husband and I take our sailboat to a very small neighborhood marina for a few days. This marina has guest capacity of about 12 boats, most of the guest slips are on a long dock that can hold about 7 boats. Everyone is friendly, just a real neighborly feel as people walk around and talk to other guests about their boat etc.
The last time we were at this marina , there was a ship which was about 130 feet long . It took up most of the dock space, only our boat was able to fit in the dock. The owner was in his 80s , and looked suspiciously like Bill Gates father, although I don’t know for sure. The whole atmosphere at this marina changed. Instead of families and a friendly atmosphere, we saw a huge ship with servants scurrying around. This one boat owner took the space of 7 boats for a 3 week reservation. It was a huge hog of resources.
When you have the mega rich imposing themselves in areas in which lower and middle class people enjoyed, you are going to get conflicts. They either need to make their own festivals, or for just a few days live like everyone else.

Then imagine yourself in a campground with your tent, and a monster RV takes over the campground, changing the whole atmosphere.

If you’re old like me you remember Tom Lehrer. Look up “I got it from Agnes” on youtube. His take on STDs was written around 1952.

What? People were having sex outside of wedlock in 1952!!?

;^)

I’m sure that you are a nice person.

You would probably move your sailboat to make room for my dinghy.

A lot of people say that I don’t have both oars in the water.

I just use a paddle.

Whoa Kimosabe! You were doing just fine until that last bit of generalization.

Antelope prefer open space so they can see predators coming. That said I have seen them at altitude but rarely in brush or wooded areas.

Actually, most marinas have docks only for dinghys. You won’t have a problem.

Gerard Butler should deploy his Scottish accent and be playing Lord Summerisle or Sergeant Howie in a remake of “The Wicker Man,” not making Quiznos commercials.

You mean the pronghorn?
I had an uncle who used to hunt them in Wyoming and Oregon, many years ago.
