I can think of many reasons. If you can't, you are a sad, sad person.
Give me a G3 with a scope and you got some serious hurt going down range. This guy forgets if the intended target knows a goon strike team is coming this invites plenty of places for a bushwack. Throw in just two or three deer hunters, especially if they have any military experience, with scoped hunting rifles and a goon team could be utterly decimated without ever having seen the faces of their killers.
One of the reasons I finally went the AR route. I figured if the goons were that stupid there would be plenty of pieces laying around for parts and lots of unused ammo.

It’s a two-edged sword. A hundred thousand bureaucrats ostracized from the community, unable to buy food, gas and clothing, power cut off. Their vehicles, personal and government-issued, sabotaged and useless. Homes vandalized and uninhabitable.
These people aren’t living in John Wayne’s Fort Apache out in the prarie. They live next door to us, in our communities.
I agree with your analysis, but I do not think it will be a fight like that.
I would suggest that there will be no revolution like that envisioned by the survivalists, simply a decline in the ability of the federal government to do anything. The same government that allowed federal law to be usurped by states with pot, refused to allow states to enforce immigration law and ignored cities that defied the government are not going to have enough Federal officers to enforce any unpopular gun law, in fact it will be openly ignored.
That is what is happening in New York now, once you get outside of Westchester county (north) and Albany. The safe act which does not allow assault weapons is being ignored by almost all law enforcement officials outside of those jurisdictions. Of the 1 million plus arms which should have been registered, less than 40,000 were or a compliance rate of ~less than 4 % The same is true in Connecticut. It has not hit the mainstream press as of yet, but the limits of compliance have been reached. Rural America is not going to disarm and the local police are not going to enforce laws that are unpopular, especially when the inner city folks are making threats of violence, and heading out to the suburbs. BLM have made local police suddenly aware of how much they depend on the local population supporting them to function.
As for the nation as a whole: The published figures say there are around 12 million AR15/AR10 rifle variants in circulation. That figure came from the ATF (reported on an HBO propaganda film) and pretty much included every thing made from September of 1963 until late 2015 or 52 years of production. How many were added this year? 500,000, 800,000? who knows? There are something like 10 million Remington model 870s shotguns made, 5 million Mossberg model 500 and something like 7 million Remington model 700 guns. There are over 1 million M1 Garands in circulation, 1.5~2 million M1 carbines, around 220,000 M1A (M14 pattern). So adding up these military pattern arms, there are at least 37 million post 1945 US military pattern long arms in circulation. If you could somehow round up 70 % of them (a figure not even achieved in Australia in 1996/1997) you are still left with over 10 million arms of US military pattern. I would guess only 50% of the arms owned by folks are owned by the original 447s3 purchaser, so even getting a 50 % compliance rate would be difficult. Likely a New York 4~5% figure is much more likely.

So, doing evil to those who are victims of circumstance (having a son, brother, husband or father who is a member of the oppressive regime) is OK with you? I'd rethink that; we all have to answer to God someday. If that makes me "sad", so be it.
In truth, how many of us really know enough about our neighbors to identify the threats? NOW is the time to learn about them, and plan how to deal with them.

It will emanate from the D.C. area, not a lot those of us in the hinterlands can do to help cut the head off.
An awful lot of those to be disarmed will be Iraq war veterans, who learned a thing or two about insurgent warfare courtesy of the very government that will be trying to take their guns.

The orders from above are repeated locally. Those are the targets within reach. Those in DC can be reached as well, it just takes a greater and smarter effort.

In civil war there are no none combatants, when fighting inside your own borders there are two sides and only two the revolutionary and the loyalists history is clear to win a unconventional conflict against technological and tactically superior forces you MUST hit the soft targets that hurt those forces the most and force them to the peace table or extinction. The families of the enemy are legitimate targets in total war, and the most effective means of breaking the will of the enemy is to wipe out what they care most for. Don’t have the stomach for it fine stay out of the way or be considered to be on the other side. This is how wars are won in the unconventional urban arenas where the enemies soft targets are mixed in the fight. The Balkans are a good example, Syria currently, Afghanistan, the Kurdish part of Iraq the list is long and conclusive. War comes and all targets in the filed of view are legitimate from 8 to 80 more of them have to die faster than yourside dies and who dies matters most as the surviving enemy sees it is not only deadly for them but also who they care most for. breaking the will to fight is paramount to victory. The victorious get to write the history and terms of surrender anyways.

I see that you did not read the Update.SNIP If this article has spurred you to think more clearly about what the end of liberty might actually look like, and about what you’ll do under scenarios other than the classic door-to-door confiscation scenario, then it has done its job.
The other thing they’ll do is take your children.....They can have the the little barstids.
