Van Susteren leaving Fox News, Hume tapped as replacement through election

Greta Van Susteren, who has hosted a top-rated evening program at Fox News for 14 years, is leaving the network.

The abrupt announcement today, in the middle of the presidential campaign, was coupled with word that Brit Hume, Fox’s senior political analyst and a former Washington managing editor, will take over as host of “On the Record” through the election.

Hume said he is “happy to take on this assignment for the balance of this extraordinary election. My Fox News colleagues have set a high standard for political coverage which I’ll do my best to uphold. I’m honored to be asked.”

Van Susteren, an attorney who hosted a legal show at CNN before joining Fox, has had a richly varied career, from interviewing presidential candidates to flying off to disaster zones such as Haiti, where she opened an orphanage and school named after her. The Wisconsin native has also been a forceful presence online, with her blog and with more than 1 million Twitter followers.

Bill Shine and Jack Abernethy, recently named co-presidents of Fox News, said in a joint statement: “We are grateful for Greta’s many contributions over the years and wish her continued success.” They also praised Hume as “one of the best political analysts in the industry” and “the ideal choice to host a nightly political program while the most dynamic and captivating election in recent history unfolds.”

The only programs I watch on Fox News include Outnumbered, The Five, The Greg Gutfeld Show, Watter’s World, and Red Eye. O’Reilly’s a droning bore and Hannity’s too much of a cheerleader.

Smart move for Greta. Fox seems to be a sinking ship these days.

“Oh btw yesterday was also Anna Kooiman’s last day on Fox News. She was one of the weekend hosts of Fox and Friends. She and her husband are moving to Sidney. Australia”

Australia??? What a disappointment. I really liked her. She was not only pretty but had such a “can do” attitude.

Hannity will be the next one on the chopping block. FNC is going total RINO leftist. Orielly could be a target depending on how he behaves. If he steers left he can stay otherwise he will be dismissed as well. Murdoch’s boys are all in with the flamming leftist Kelly. Good luck with that fellows...

You must be a #NeverTrumper because otherwise you would say that Hannity is anti Trump.

The ones that are anti Trump on Fox News are not the hosts of the various Fox News programs; except Shep Smith and Jerry Rivera, but several of the Fox News contributors.

I hope they give a regular spot to Catherine Herridge.

I could look at her all day.

You’re kidding, right? I am for Trump all the way!! I do think there are Fox News anchors who are anti-Trump. Greg Jarrett, Megyn Kelly, Brit Hume to name a few.

She was fair which is something you don’t see in the media nowadays..yes she was a supporter of Hillary Clinton in 2008 but she was always respectable of ALL the candidates..she was objective, investigated both sides fairly..I think that she was let go because she was Pro Trump and look around, Fox News is VERY anti Trump, at least with MSNBC you know why they hate Trump, but with Fox News its a business decision, they know they will get their ratings back if Clinton becomes President they will start bashing Democrats again

I’m concerned about Judge Janeen Pirro, a strong Trump supporter and enemy of the Witch. There was a substitute each of the last two weeks. May only be for vacation, but . . .

Reading between the lines tells me FNC is soon to be history or go far left or both.

Yeah, I like the idea of Hannity and Bannon teaming up to create a Pro-American conservative news network. FNC is a zombie now.

“My guess is he (Hume) is a placeholder for whomever they decide to give the spot to.”

Interesting analysis. I think that you are probably right, due to his age.

He may be particularly attractive to lead through the election, since that is his specialty, and if management does have an anti-Trump agenda.

Perhaps him holding the slot indicates that Megyn Kelley’s stock is rising in her contract negotiations. Her and Hume were widely speculated to have had an affair which ended both of their marriages, when she was an ambitious up and comer.

If they did, it will be their loss, but am still not going to watch the Clinton News Network, or ABC, CBS, NBC/MSNBC

>> What’s the difference between Greta and Obama? <<

Obama apparently has never been a Scientologist. Otherwise, they are pretty similar — both lawyers, both married to other lawyers, both leftwingers, etc.

What about Cavuto at Fox News 3:00 PM CST? He is supposed to return again today from his absence.
