Cook: Trump could sweep toss-up states and still lose to Clinton
The Hill ^ | 8/17/16 | Nikita Vladimirov

The latest Electoral College forecast published by the Cook Political Report on Monday found that Donald Trump would lose to Hillary Clinton even if he could sweep the toss-up states in November.

"As the race stands today, Trump could sweep the entire Toss Up column and still come up two electoral votes short of the 270 needed to win," the report said. "At the mid-point of August, Hillary Clinton has 21 states plus the District of Columbia and three of Maine’s four electoral votes that are Solidly, Likely or Leaning in Democratic for a total of 272 electoral votes, two more than the 270 electoral votes needed to win.

I know this is an old column...about 3 weeks...

Just want to know what others think.

Seems to me that if Trump sweeps the tossup/swing states, that'll reflect an overall NATIONAL mood swing to him...even in the Demon Rat states.

The Hill might be trying to become the new Pollutico--attempting to drag down and depress Trump support.

Of course, it’s propaganda designed to dishearten Trump supporters and hopefully swing the election. Recent polls have shown Trump up or in a tie in formerly blue states.

Look at the states that W won in 2000.Unless I’m mistaken those states, today, have a combined EV total greater than in 2000.

Trump could sweep every state and still lose.. if we don’t address this looming electronic vote tallying machine fraud.

You’re right; this is from August 17th. Nonetheless, Charlie Cook is seldom right, whatever the age of this column.

Dare I’d say that two years ago these same prognostications based on mounds and heaps of histological data from campaigns where both sides of the Uni-Party were in control and managing the Kabuki elections.....all the way up until 2014 (they leave out mid terms I 2010).

It quite simply a psyops war between the pundit and pollster minnions fueled by Soros and Clinton money to do the queen’s bidding, regardless. Hitler the invincible crushing across the US like it was Poland, Austria, Czechoslovakia, France, Belgium - ALL of Europe and embarking on taking out the Russian Bear. Different time and places the effect they’d like you to think is back then, though.

But there are tricks for both sides. Like Patton’s diversion at Calais to trick the Germans and a myriad of other tactics, too.

In the end, this isn’t 2008, it isn’t 2012. It is an America after having been under that skidmark Obama’s rule for nigh on 8 years. It is an America that now rightly reckons RINOs and GOPe as the dogs they are.

November 8, 2016 is the new day of infamy and we will storm their beaches like never before.

The trend I noticed last night was now the media scum are focusing on the electoral college because he’s either tied or leading in the polls.

Expect this to continue once Trump solidly leads in the polls and even RealCrapPolitics.com can’t skew their average anymore.

Three weeks ago -- wasn't the meme that it looked so bad for Trump that he should just hang it up, and pass the baton to Jeb, for the good of the country and the good of the Republican party?

State polls inevitably follow the national polls. The only time they are really useful is a couple of weeks before the election.

I'd consider that the campaign started on Labor Day, and apparently Trump does, too, since he just recently began spending money on TV ads a couple of weeks ago. Let's see where this is in a couple of weeks. Hillary might not even be the Democrat candidate by then.

I agree. If Trump were leading by twenty points, the MSM would never admit it. Look for the MSM to continue the “accent the negative” meme for the rest of the election.

“Look at the states that W won in 2000.Unless I’m mistaken those states, today, have a combined EV total greater than in 2000.”

Trump is winning everything Bush won in 2000 plus NY, MI and PA.

The argument is (or was) that Hillary half billion of unanswered advertising in the ballteground state have skewed the results in those states relative to the nation as a whole.

I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this, but the other side always has more money than we do. We have to conserve our funds until the last four to six weeks. Then, if we can match him 50 cents to a dollar in advertising, we’ll do fine. McCain couldn’t even do that, and was swamped. Romney did that, and lost a close one.

Show the flag, boys. Bumperstickers and yard signs. And if you can spare a buck or two send it in.

In Bonzo’s banana republic, Trump could sweep all 50 states and still lose to Clintoon. So what else is new.

I agree, Trump could win yuge and we would never know it. The votes could be tallied for HRC instead.

It’s old and it’s propaganda. PA is most obviously a state that is if anything pulling increasingly to Trump, as are all of Charlie’s “toss ups” and, now, quite possibly MI and WI.

That may have happened to Romney in 1012. 19 precincts in Philly and NOT ONE vote was recorded for him and the RNC said nothing!

You just could not write the script for CW 2.0 any better than THAT!

We can’t let the democrats carry all 57 states! In fact voting is expected to be so heavy that democrats are to vote on Nov. 9th.
