Donald Trump paid his respects on Saturday at the funeral of conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly, 92, who passed away this week. “We are here today to honor the life and legacy of a truly great American patriot,” Trump told attendees of Schlafly’s funeral mass on Saturday afternoon. “A movement has lost its hero.”
Trump met privately with the Archbishop in the adjoining chapel where Schlafly was married in 1949.
Trump was welcomed by the mass attendees with a standing ovation.
“We lost an amazing woman and our county has lost a true patriot. A strong, proud, and fierce warrior. And that’s what she was– a warrior. A warrior for the country which she loved so much,” Trump said. “To quote a poet, Phyllis was that strength which in all days moved Heaven and Earth.”
“In all of her battles, she never strayed from one guiding principle: she was for America, and it was always always America first. With Phyllis, it was always America first.”
This “beloved woman had more strength… and heart than 50 of the strongest politicians all put together,” Trump said, adding:
She never apologized, she never backed down in taking on the Kingmakers. She loved her country, she loved her family, and she loved her God. Her legacy will live on every time some underdog defies the odds and delivers a win for the people. America has always been about the underdog and has always been about defying the odds. The idea that so-called “little people” that she loved so much could beat the system– often times the rigged system… that’s the romance of America. That’s the story of the mother and patriot we honor here today.
When Trump had finished his remarks, attendees, once again, rose to give him — and her — a standing ovation.

Trump has certainly elevated his prose. This eulogy was something remarkable . . . for anyone, not just Trump.
I know he’s patriotic and that is part of the reason.
But he is so ####ing savvy and smart!!!!
Not every candidate would have gone.
He is genius in his decisions lately.
As well as thinking she is drop dead gorgeous, I think Ivanka is the brains too behind a lot of great moves.
As another great woman, Margaret Thatcher, would say: "She never went wobbly." Not once.
No wonder Donald Trump finds common ground with her.
And he’ll be lambasted by the left.
Popular leftists have come onto the Internet in droves to attack Phyllis Schlafly this week: they simply could not resist attacking at this sad time. They are the “deplorable” ones!
Who cares if he does? He could burp after eating dinner and it'll be 10-pt font on the cover of the New York Times demanding an apology.
The beauty of Trump is that he has put the kibosh on this notion that Republicans need to apology for what they believe in.

I think it is patently obvious - Donald Trump has the potential, if he wins election, to be one of the greatest American Presidents of the last 100 years.
Perhaps. The concept of a "dumb Blonde" etc is soooo false. Genetics is interesting, the good looks often go with athleticism and brains. But more importantly she has heart, that could be her forte, the old world respect as well from the Eastern Bloc of which she was raised. Not that he wasn't raised in a time where that was the norm...
I would like to ask you and others to please quit trying to credit everyone else but Trump with his political moves.
Ivanka is a tremendous plus, but she is not the candidate and we have absolutely no reason to credit her with ANYTHING, other than her speeches.
On the other hand, Trump has consistently delivered a pretty darned great message and has honed it to make it an excellent message.
Even if someone did have his ear, he is the guy that bought in.
Every time you credit others with his actions, you minimize his part in it.
Do you want to see him elected, or are you pushing for an Ivanka run?
