Moves to let European Parliament head Martin Schulz extend his tenure are sparking fresh infighting in the crisis-hit EU, with his opponents warning it would be akin to a declaration of war.

The bearded 60-year-old German former bookshop owner has been in office for five years, more than anyone else since the parliament held its first international elections in 1979.

Schulz now looks set to seek another two and a half years at the helm of the EU’s only elected body, a position whose profile he has raised with outspoken views on issues ranging from Brexit to Grexit.

But Schulz will be ignoring a deal between right and left-wing parties — which he himself signed on behalf of the Socialist group — stipulating the presidency should alternate between the political camps every 30 months. …

And this, ladies and gentlemen, illustrates why it is that s world government will not bring enduring peace.

Deals with lefties always work out this way. "Let's agree that I get my way right now, and later you will get your way!" But later never comes.

5 years = 60 months, so he’s already violated the agreement once and they let him get away with it. What makes this news now?

Martin Schulz came up in some German article last week....as the ‘heir-apparent’ to SPD’s Chancellor candidate in the Oct/Nov 2017 national election in Germany. Officially, I don’t think the SPD will have the meeting or make the decision until Feb or Mar. He wants to remain in some position where he looks like has authority.

I know i sounds out there, and I am :), but I still dont rule out an intra-european war.

The fascists, er, Germany and France, want their way. The eastern countries will not accept it.

England already was smart enough to cut and run. IF it holds out until the departure date.

But later never comes.

That is already the case as he is 30 months over the agreement as it is, since the article says he has been there 5 years (60 months) already.

Especially not with the interference of the Muslim refuge problem in Europe.
They are idiots for bringing them in.
Get rid of Merkel.

Uh…didn’t someone notice that he has been in office 60 months instead of 30 months? These EU bureaucrats are not the sharpest knives in the drawers.

Sure they did. It’s just that certain people started to get annoyed with that, since it got in the way of their own advancement.
