Millions of American teenagers are at risk of running out of food or don't have access to affordable, healthy food.
Some of them are so desperate, they're selling their bodies and committing crimes to go to jail to ensure regular meals, according to an Urban Institute study.
Breaking down the numbers
The study found at least 6.8 million people were "food insecure," meaning they didn't have reliable access to affordable, healthy food. Another 4 million were in "marginally food secure" households, where the "threat of running out of food is real."
All of the 10 communities surveyed in focus groups mentioned teens using sex to pay for meals. Eight of the 10 mentioned criminal acts, ranging from shoplifting to drug dealing, to pay for food. And widespread scrutiny around surrounding hunger often prevented teens from opening up.

Nearly all schools offer breakfast and lunch and many are now offering them free to all takers. The newest trend in school dining is to offer supper as well. Then there are the ‘backpacks’ for the weekend, because God knows we shouldn’t expect parents to feed their kids on the weekends. When school is out, many schools offer free lunches to anyone under the age of 18. And of course, these kids’ parents are getting EBT cards that account for the kids in the family as well. But we must do more—won’t someone think of the children?

They are probably trading sex for drugs and don’t want to admit it to the surveyors. Plus if they prostitute themselves saying they did it because they were hungry gains more sympathy than saying it was for the money.
I would love to review a list of the teens that are going hungry - say, 10 examples of their circumstances - living conditions, school situation, etc.
There are so many programs out there for poor people that going hungry almost guarantees that you are also stuck on stupid.

‘Food insecure’ includes latch key kids and kids in broken homes or alternate family structures who, when asked by researchers, can’t say what they are going to eat next.
