White House threatens veto of Guantanamo bill
The Hill ^ | 09/13/16 | Rebecca Kheel

The Obama administration is threatening to veto a House bill that would prohibit all transfers out of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.

The veto threat, in the form of a statement of administration policy, reiterates the administration’s longstanding argument that closing the facility would improve national security. It says detainee transfers to foreign countries happen only after a comprehensive review process.

Name one that has been denied after review.

Because his veto needs to be slapped down, finally.

We can’t get Republicans to stand up to Zero and you think we’d get Dems to do so ?

I’ll be interested in seeing if enough votes can be gathered to override the veto. (I often have this hope and often meet with dissapointment.)

If I recall correctly, Obama announced his intention to close Gitmo in 2009. If closing it would be such a great thing, why hasn’t he done it by now?

My own theories:

1. He will close it around January 2017, and try to give the property back to Cuba.

2. If he does this, he’ll be praised by the adoring press as though he closed it when he originally said he would.

I agree. Let his legacy be one of veto.

Seems a bit late. But maybe they figured he’d veto it anyway and if they waited until one month before the election he’d pay the price.

He hasn’t managed to close Guantanamo because those mean Republicans keep Ruining Everything, natch.

The “comprehensive review process” comment is particularly funny in light of all the terrorists that either dropped out of sight after release, or actually reappeared on the battlefield. I guess that review process is the same one Obongo and his toadies use on “refugees” being resettled in the US.

BO’s legacy will be one of freeing terrorists and criminals back into society and rampant lawlessness.

This is just another attempt by Obama to destroy our country.

Watch this one dated 4/28/2016. This is staggering and absolutely unbelievable.
And it gets NO press.

the administration’s longstanding argument that closing the facility would improve national security.

In what universe does letting suspected terrorists go ... improve our national security?

Dog bites man.

Has there been a bill - literally - that the White House hasn’t threatened to veto regardless of subject and regardless of their familiarity with it?

...He will close it around January 2017, and try to give the property back to Cuba...

If Cuba gets it back, let it be with not a stick or brick standing, no working infrastructure including running water or sewers, or electric, no fuel storgae, no access to dockage, and no usable runways or roads.

The Castros and their successors will turn it over to the Russians, the Chinese, or a hostile Arab or other enemy agent tenant. Why make it easy?
