"These supposedly principled conservatives deeply believe that “the best chance of saving the nation in the long run is to avoid elevating Trump to president and leader of the party because he could forever destroy conservatism and the Republican brand.”

The Never Trump people don't actually believe this.

They are simply corrupt, Clinton supporters and phony conservatives who are working to help the Democrats to win.

They are despicable and untrustworthy.

>>What exactly are the high “conservative” principles of Romney and McCain that Trump has failed to express?<<

Same for Congressional Republicans. On every issue, they fold like a cheap suit. And keep pushing the country ever-leftward.

It is not failing to express “conservative” principles that the #NeverTrumpers object to; it is that Trump won’t play designated loser. So they emulate their true hero, Vidkun Quisling.

Let’s rewind the tape and recall exactly why Trump gained popularity in the first place.

1)It’s abundantly clear that if the illegal invasion isn’t stopped and reversed, we are done as a country. Got it - finished; it’s over. Re: Ann Coulter’s ‘Adios America’.

2)Nobody else has the...intestinal fortitude to talk about it, much less do something meaningful about it.

3)It’s an outrage our vets are treated the way they are by the very government who sent them to war. Of all Americans who should not be homeless and neglected, it’s our soldiers.

4)Nobody else has the sense to take care of them, that is, really take care of them after they come home.

Everything else is icing on the cake.

imbaugh defines himself as a “reluctant Trumper,” who decided to support the Donald as the lesser of two evils after his preferred candidate Ted Cruz stumbled in the primaries.

“reluctant Trumper,”? Well, whatever it takes I suppose.

When Trump first announced, I didn't take him seriously at all. I said something indicating he was politically insignificant.

What a wonderful surprise it turned out to be. From his first few statements I thought "Wow....Wow....If he keeps on this track he could win." My wife, Latina, said the same thing.

My wife changed support from Ted Cruz first. I got in one more donation and switch by February. Trump had completely outmaneuvered Cruz and the "high road" we expected Cruz to take had taken a route through East Memphis on character. Right from the moment we saw the scandal on his team announcing Carson had dropped out we started to really pay attention to what his people, his responsibility and leadership, were resulting in.

We were loving Trump by then...what a fighter! Not some weeny fudge packing RINO, but a street brawler who had no problem taking out an entire building to kill a flea. Loved it.

He has been awesome since, like no other candidate in my lifetime.

Reluctant? Let's say it has been so long since we have a real, viable, fighting candidate, I didn't know what he was when I first saw him.

Whatever it takes, I want Trump in the Presidency this January.

NeverTrumpers=Uniparty.

You would think that the inroads he is making into minorities would have the GOP thrilled.

“he could forever destroy conservatism and the Republican brand.”.
I want that. Theirs is the conservatism of being nothing more then foot dragging Democrats and UN butt boys. Their brand is that of visionless political cowards, who only fight grassroots conservatives so they can receive a pat on the head from the Washington Post.

I listened to a lecture by this man least night. A history of the conservative movement since the 80s. He was pretty scathing on the children (and the brother?) of neoconservatives who got into positions of power through their relatives and then became the most vociferous never-Trumpers. Interesting guy.

Most of Trump’s negatives are actually lies where a word or two were presented totally out of context and then exaggerated to a ridiculous extreme.

I wonder, what will be his payback? They will not get off scott free

“the best chance of saving the nation in the long run is to avoid elevating Trump to president and leader of the party because he could forever destroy conservatism and the Republican brand.”

Using that logic, and given its past piss-poor performance, one could say the best chance of saving the nation in the long run is to avoid electing republicans to the congress.

After listening to Rush and Levin for years I’ve stopped, as have many, many others have too.

The last few polls that have come have shown that both Trump and Hillary are getting equal support from their party 87% of Republicans for Trump and 88% of Democrats for Hillary, while this is slightly lower than the 92% Romney had in 2012, it's not markedly so, and may be virtually tied by election day.

The point is #NeverTrump does not exist, it is a paper tiger, it exists only in the minds of people who think they have a lot more influence than they actually do (such as Bill Kristol). Look how the #neverTrump's "savior" Evan McMullin is doing (if you can find anything about him in the news) he failed to even get 275 signatures in Tennessee to get on the ballot and he is polling less than 1% in every state he is on the ballot but Utah where he is at 9% but is actually pulling more votes from Hillary than Trump, increasing Trump margin in that state to +15%

The #NeverTrumpers are neoconservatives who, in many instances, are either former Ds or children of Trotskyites.

I am glad that the Never Trumpers have outed themselves to prove their loyalty to the system, rather than the people or our Constitution. I prefer the Never Trumpers to these moderate milksops. The "reluctant supporters" are worse. Reluctant translates to cowardly in my book. I believe Christ spoke pretty clearly regarding lukewarm support.

With friends like these "reluctant supporters," who needs enemies? While Limbaugh has enriched himself through political prostitution, he's really a good guy. Like their hero, Quintilian, they profess the most lofty ideals of rhetoric while slobbering at the feet of tyrants. While Domitian instituted the reign of terror, Quintilian extolled the virtues of lying to further a good end. His modern disciples such as Limbaugh promote the corrupt players in the current system in pursuit of some future moral Utopia while the Republic crumbles at our feet.

I read a Bible-themed book recently by David Limbaugh and thought it was pretty informative, so I’m sad to hear he’s hurting Trump now with his lukewarm support. You know what God says about lukewarm institutions, He will spit you out of his mouth. I won’t read any more David Limbaugh books.

This is the first that I have heard of David Limbaugh now supporting Donald Trump. Reluctantly. I respect him and Rush for finally admitting and accepting the reality of the political situation which will end as either this Republic surviving with Donald Trump or being destroyed by a Clinton victory.

Limbaugh does not hide his dislike for Trump’s free-wheeling rhetoric and believes that the GOP nominee’s critics on the right may be fully justified in doubting his “genuine commitment to conservative policies.”

B$. Rush certainly preferred Cruz or Rubio but I don't hear what the author claims in that paragraph.

I had plenty to dump on Rush for during the primary but unlike Beck and Levin he has managed to see that this race is a time of choosing.

The only principle that matters to the NeverTrumpers is to prevent the citizens from reversing 30 years of bipartisan policy of non-enforcement of immigration laws.
The illegal alien inundation was INTENTIONAL.
BOTH parties have been blocking the citizens from doing anything about it.

This time they got Trumped and they are pissed.

They are despicable and untrustworthy.

Some are. The party elites who want to hang onto the staus quo are. I think the rest are simply deluded and incapable of rational thought. They cannot seem to see the devastating consequences of "Trump loses = Hillary wins". I saw it a couple of days ago in a thread in which some FReepers were defending Mark Levin for "staying true to his conservative principles". Somehow Trump is not conservative enough, but the crap sandwiches of McCain and Romney were?

The never trumpers are bush republicans. Bush cabal brought down a few presidents, killed many people and addicted many people. They used and abused middle class Americans and poor the world over for their personal gain. They are just a bit less crude than the clintons. Never trumpers love oligarchies. They just want their own in power.
