If they get that money, they will be kicked off public assistance. Unless they find some clever lawyer or financial advisor to put the money into some sort of account for the kids, until they reach adulthood. Any assets over $3,000 will get you kicked off welfare.
I believe also that housing does not count. Buy a house with it and they’re still fine for the dole.
