i agree. i thought it stood for that protective, but understaffed police force, that separates humanity from lawlessness.

Therein lies the flaw in the concept. It completely ignores the very real concept that we, the militia of the nation is what actually protects us from lawlessness. The police are not numerous enough to actually do what it is that they claim. The vast majority of the citizens are good, decent folks who do not actually need policing on a day-to-day basis. For myself, I'd be as likely to rob or murder my fellow citizen as I would fly to the moon. However, I am a guardian of the weak every bit as much as the police (or military for that matter). The primary purpose of the police is to raise revenue, protect the government, and enforce a vast array of what is for the most part unconstitutional law. Any benefits accrued by average citizens is incidental to their mission. The supreme Court has ruled multiple times that the police have no specific duty to protect any individual citizen. That is largely the citizen's job.

I'm assuming that by "9/11", you actually mean dialing 911. That's fine if you have an unknown amount of time for them to arrive.

The basic message of the “thin blue line” is that cops will cover for each other when they break the law.

Is this your own straw man?

If not, that is according to whom?

That has never been my understanding.

All my life, among normal people, it defined or represents the thin line between order or safety and chaos.
Easily broken by determined thugs.

Actually, that’s not normal at all. That’s a dependency, nanny-state mindset.

If I were you, I’d take a gander at the 2nd Amendment and ponder the meaning of the militia being necessary to the security of a free state, and the role of cops in that context.

The true line between chaos and order is the ability and willingness of the people to be capable of self-defense.

Any place that needs the police to be the final line of defense is already lost.

Watching the FBI be caught rigging investigations to keep Clinton indictment-free is probably not the best time to express unreserved faith in government law enforcement employees. There is deep corruption throughout the land and the powers of law enforcement particularly attract those intent on abusing them.

Wal Mart should treat these employees the exact same way they would if they refused to bake a gay cake, force them to submit to “sensitivity training”, require them to issue mea culpas than fire their sorry asses. Or better yet, order them do a ride along one night in a neighborhood that has an MLK Blvd running through it.
