~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Maine

The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNS), often called the Portsmouth Navy Yard, is a United States Navy shipyard located in Kittery on the southern boundary of Maine near the city of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. PNS is tasked with the overhaul, repair, and modernization of US Navy submarines.

The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard was established on June 12, 1800 during the administration of President John Adams, and is the U.S. Navy's oldest continuously operating shipyard. It sits on a cluster of conjoined islands called Seavey's Island in the Piscataqua River, whose swift tidal current prevents ice from blocking navigation to the Atlantic Ocean.

With the commissioning of the Virginia-class submarine, USS New Hampshire (SSN 778) in 2008, the shipyard and the Seacoast Communities got their first look at the next generation of submarine technology and the future of ship repair. Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is performing the first extended availability on the new class of submarine on USS Virginia (SSN 774) which began October 1, 2008.

In addition to the Navy presence, the United States Army New England Recruiting Battalion relocated to PNSY in June 2010 from the closed Brunswick Naval Air Station. The United States Coast Guard uses the Portsmouth Navy Yard as the home port for the medium-endurance cutters Reliance, Tahoma, and Campbell.

Hi MA!

*HUGS*

It’s the debate, I think. Posting is a bit dicey here for sure.

Girl, ya need to slow down! Life’s too short to spend all of it working. LOL!

Things are well enough here. We keep waking up each day and we can’t complain about that. :-)

Sorry you’re still feeling puny. At least you’re improving but it sure would be nice if it sped up, wouldn’t it? :-)
One day at a time.

Howdy, Kathy.

It’s just FR that’s slow tonight due to the debate. The “live” thread is BUSY. Other sites are moving along smoothly.

Hope your day hasn’t been another crazy one with units not getting their info to y’all on time.

I finally gave up...got both my units in. Printed them off and now home. Mom is fed, and now can get them done.

I tried to follow some of the thread, but the internet was slow and I had work to do. LOL!

I need to get to bed fairly early, as I almost fell asleep at work.

Yay! It helps you get your job done when they do theirs first. Kinda hard to do your job without the info you need. Maybe there’s been some griping by those who didn’t get paid on time, and who wouldn’t gripe about that?!!

FR was reeeeeeally dragging earlier because of the “live” debate thread. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one move so fast! I’m still reading and hoping one image gets posted tonight. At least the site’s moving a lot faster now.

I hope you’re able to get a good long sleep tonight. You run on too little sleep too often and I don’t know how you pull it off.
