Trump Is Better Positioned for the Next Two Debates Than the Pundits Dare Realize
American Thinker ^ | September 29 | Dov Fisher

In the first presidential debate Donald Trump achieved Job One: convincing independents that he is being mischaracterized and caricatured, that he really is a “normal” guy, just exuberant but essentially normal, under control, disciplined. To the point that he is a plausible choice. I believe that at the suggestion of his handlers he drank water whenever he felt the urge to interrupt or insult or felt himself “losing it.” (The irony, of course, is that he mocked Marco Rubio for drinking lots of water during debates. But, as with “All Things Trump,” the alternative is Hillary. So drink away!)

It seemed kind-of a draw. I wanted him to hit her harder on the emails, the Clinton Foundation, the speaking fees, her 25 years of public scandals, even how she lied about her name. But his most important job was to seem Presidential, no matter what, to seem plausible. In that, he succeeded, much as he benefited when he shared a stage and podium with the Mexican President, with marble walls behind them as two world leaders. He was sharing the stage, split-screen with the Secretary of State, the Democrats’ candidate for President, and he managed to emerge plausible. Despite the hundreds of millions spent on calling him a monster, the mere sight of him in a one-on-one with Hillary Clinton legitimized him for Independents as a real candidate. In that sense, he won a split decision narrowly.

I was enormously put off, disgusted, by her constant false laughing and broad toothy smiling, as though she perceived Trump to be the funniest buffoon, just so comical that you honestly could not help laughing. Well, he was fine, was serious, and there was nothing to laugh at — reflecting that her laugh and toothy smile is phony, now and always.

Trump excels in the town hall format, even with 2 big Lefty moderators.

He gambled that he could just play not to lose while he sized her up which is exactly what happened. She did the best she possibly could and lost ground. He can’t help but be better in the next two debates.

Those on our side who moan “Oh he should have said this or done that” have to answer this question, “Since Trump got about 71% of about 5 million online “Who won?” votes and has gone up or maintained his lead in national polls since Monday how badly did he do?”

There was some good suggestions in the article.

I would also like to see Trump demand answers on Hillary’s $250K speaking fees. He should start reading the list of the $250K donors and then say: “This is who my opponent represents. I represent the rest of the American people.”

“If you want the status quo, there she is. Vote for her.”

“If you want change then I am your candidate. I promise to work every hour of every day for you. We can root out corruption in Washington DC—but I need your support.”

No matter how the Democrat media tries to pump up interest in these phony debates, Hillary will have the “audience-generated questions” before the next debate, as she did this time. She cheats ALL the time. The video this morning of one of her lackeys retrieving her notes from her podium and giving the folder to Lester Holt, the Hillary house-boy/moderator, certainly begs to be looked into. Of course, it’s probably been shredded by now, but someone should demand some answers and see what lie she can come up with.

Trump needs to point out to the audience that when Hillary is nervous... “She smiles more..” This will put her in a double bind where she is afraid to smile and appears more nervous... and... it’s true!!!

I like that Hitlery wore all red. I couldn’t figure out if she was trying to appear as Satan or was just in full commie mode.

He’s smart, he knew if he went into that first debate guns blazing people would have been taken aback and viewed it negatively. Now people are ASKING him to do it!

It would have been against the debate rules for Trump to have a copy of anything with him.

Yeah, in this format they will both be seated. However, they don't have to remain that way. I hope when Trump answers a question from a member of the audience, he gets out of his seat and walks over to them as if he is having a conversation with them. This would be in stark contrast of Hillary remaining in her seat (can't see her risking trying to stand )and looking like the royal queen answering the peasants questions.

I see benefits to excessively civilized behavior in the first debate — let people know that Trump is not a crazy person.

I see benefits to excessively civilized behavior in the third debate — final impression should be that Trump is not a crazy person.

Bu the second debate — I suspect Trump can mix it up and score some dramatic points. Hillary might be surprised and/or it might throw her off later as she prepares for the third debate — will Trump attack? will Trump be presidential? She’ll have to guess. But I hope to see more fireworks at the Second Debate.

I think that the AV sound guy was playing with the microphones and adjusting them to pick up Trump’s sniffle.

The sound board has an equalizer that allows for that specific frequency to be amplified or diminished. It is an easy adjustment as it is off spectrum with the vocals.

I would say that it was purposeful. I can do that same thing with the microphone adjustments... especially if I use a directional microphone and aim it upward toward his nose while Hillary’s microphone was aimed at her mouth.

It’d be funny to have your water on the rocks and stand there during the idiots idiocies, head down, one hand in your pocket the other holding the glass...softly, constantly clinking the ice.

On reflection, President Trump's hesitation to attack Monica's ex-boyfriend's Husband reminds me of Esther in the Bible- her hesitation to attack Haman was fortuitous, because in the interim the King was told the story of Mordecai saving his life.

The 3-week afterjudgement of the debate is setting up for President Trump to totally destroy Hillary in the next two debates.

Trump threw away the first debate to win the election.

He had to look presidential to undecideds and low info voters.

In that respect he succeeded brilliantly.

Ed Rollins was on Fox & Friends this morning pushing the line that Trump wasn’t prepared for the first debate and needs to prepare for the other two (implying that he will lose the election otherwise)...just happens to match the theme Hillary was pushing to her supporters that she was well-prepared for the debate and is well-prepared to be President.

One further suggestion: “Change” is not a good word right now. Too much association with “hope and change”. After Trump demonstrates real hope and real positive change, the words will be safe to use in Presidential politics.
