Not that long ago, I could get away from the dystopian news environment and relax. I'd spend my weekends at the movies, chatting with friends over a latte or watching football on my oversized 4K TV, all things that bring a smile, take me away just good old-fashioned fun. But one after another, these treasured pastimes have become something else a reminder of the dark times we live in, another forum for angry political discourse. In their zeal to control every aspect of our lives, liberal activists have left no stone unturned.
My first casualty was the movies. Nothing saves you from reality more than a good flick. But one by one, my favorite Hollywood stars publicly inserted themselves into politics. Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Lawrence, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck are on the growing list of actors and actresses who feel compelled to take stands on issues that have nothing to do with their films.
Now, I'd like to be the bigger person and not let personal politics affect my entertainment choices, but the fact is, their foray into politics changes my perception. Now, instead of seeing these actors and actresses as the characters they so brilliantly portray, I see the man behind the curtain, the flawed person behind the illusion. Gone are the days when I can separate the activist actor from his performance. Now their reality is in my face.

HAHAHA!
Yeah. That was how it worked in King county Washington (where I lived for 46 years). Around here, I don’t even need a permit to build a home. Though I’d probably have to pay cash for it - but that is a free market constraint.
I have two streams and a natural well. Nobody cares. Yet...
“Bet I was the only guy walking in through security with a bag of Dunkin’ Donuts.”
Dunk ‘em in Jaegermeister, that’ll do the trick.
I actually walked through security holding it open.
Guy just waved me through.
Were they "Berliners"?
Interesting that the Trump haters cannot keep their opinions to themselves...
If you want to vote for Hillary, I am not going to get in your face, I just assume you are an idiot and not worth the time...
Did you even read the op-ed? There is no mention Donald Trump or the election.
Consider the opening scenes of Knute Rockne, All American in which the young immigrant Knute chastises his father to speak English, because “We're Americans now.” Or the favorable image of Christianity in films like Going my Way or Ben Hur. Or the positive portrayals of fathers in movies like Trouble Along the Way or TV shows like Father Knows Best.
The deconsructivist nature of media is only about forty years old.
Nope. It was not politics. It was the Left and the media.
In other words, Politics.
The article is about politics, we are in the middle of an election...
It’s not a big leap to make a comment about Trump...
Or, a way of life to them. I remember reading about the Communists and National Socialists fighting pitched battles in Germany while the rest of the citizenry went about their daily business.
To the non-religious, Politics is their God.
On that, we both agree.
That's "King" as in "Martin Luther King." BTW
Yeah, it was named after a Governor ‘William King’ until just a few years back.
I wonder when they will re-name the state after George Washington Carver.
I love peanut butter.
The dead actors and actresses won’t cause any troubles. My kids’ video viewing has been mainly Burns and Allen, I Love Lucy, old Dragnet, Fleischer era Popeye, Get Smart, Green Hornet and for my eldest daughter, Perry Mason. Jeeves and Wooster (except for the awful end of Season 4) is about as new as I promote. Patty Duke is a bit edgy for our household. Last week’s movie was “Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein”.
It’s been this way for a while, now. This is why it’s no longer really possible to have good friends who are leftist. There’s nothing left to talk about that isn’t politicized.
