Donald Trump’s threat to imprison Hillary Clinton is a threat to Democracy
VOX ^ | 10-10-2016 | Zack Beauchamp

Posted on 10/09/2016 11:43:47 PM PDT by tcrlaf

There is no way to sugarcoat this: At Sunday night’s presidential debate, Donald Trump threatened to throw Hillary Clinton in jail if he wins the presidency. This — threatening to jail one’s political opponents — is how democratic norms die.

The exchange happened during a discussion of the controversy over Hillary Clinton’s private email server. Trump began by decrying Clinton’s conduct — which, according to the FBI, was quite bad but not illegal. He then proposed appointing a special prosecutor to investigate her, and warned Clinton that, if he were president now, “you’d be in jail”:

TRUMP: I'll tell you what. I didn't think I'd say this, and I'm going to say it, and hate to say it: If I win, I'm going to instruct the attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation because there's never been so many lies, so much deception … A very expensive process, so we're going to get a special prosecutor because people have been, their lives have been destroyed for doing one-fifth of what you've done. And it's a disgrace, and honestly, you ought to be ashamed.

(SNIP)

This is so far beyond normal that it’s hard to even know where to start.

In democracies, we respect people’s rights to disagree with each other. When one candidate wins a presidential election, the loser returns to private life or another government position. In some cases, former rivals become close friends. George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, who defeated Bush in the 1992 election, travel together and have spent decades jointly raising money to aid the victims of natural disasters.

They don’t get sent to jail, because we believe that political disagreement should be legal.

Donald Trump doesn’t seem to care about all that.

This — threatening to jail one’s political opponents — is how democratic norms die.

You know what's a bigger threat to democracy? Corruption and special exemptions to legal consequences for powerful people. The FBI made a mockery of Clinton's clear violations of the law - violations that would have gotten the rest of us imprisoned for years. And now some rag called Vox is whining that Trump's calls for a special investigator are going to give democracy the vapors? GTFOHWTBS.

Hillary for Prez? She has a long record of exactly zero achievements other than being a grifter and playing the role Tammy Wynette for political expediency.

Trump engaged in locker room banter? I don’t see any women complaining about his actual behavior.

The Clinton’s on the other hand have actually and seriously abused women.

“I did not have have sexual relations, with that woman....Ms. Lewinsky”.

Oh, he meant the woman with the blue dress on. Personally if I were president I would be up to no good with a number of women and I would go Kennedy.

But, I don’t have women accusing me of rape, and then lying under oath, suborning perjury which resulted in his being fined nearly $1 million, disbarred 5 years and permanently barred from ever arguing in front of the Supreme Court.

Sure, he’s not on the ballot but, she supported his actions which demonstrably injured women and she tore into them often.

Her dishonesty goes all the way back to Watergate, when she worked on the committee.

Rose law records mysteriously show up as gift years after the original investigation ended. Weird and why have them show up at all.

The there is Whitewater, Travel gate, trumped up charges that some idiotic video was to blame for Benghazi, orchestrating the destruction of the Middle East, conveniently deciding what emails to give back and erasing some 30,000.

Lucky for her Comey decided that while what she did is prosecutable, no one in their right might would pursue this case and therefore he would not refer it to justice.

Poor Petraeus. Now that guy is an asshole (sarcasm).

Lucky for Clinton, 1/2 of her voters weren’t alive when she and Bill pulled their shenanigans, so they see her through a different lens

Once reason that der Hildebeast is running for president is her desire to keep from being prosecuted for high crimes by the Republican administration.

Just in case the pecker puffer from vox wants to learn something. Didn't get the name of the freeper who posted this:

‘Democratic’ in its original meaning [refers to] unlimited majority rule . . . a social system in which one's work, one's property, one’s mind, and one’s life are at the mercy of any gang that may muster the vote of a majority at any moment for any purpose.

If we discard morality and substitute for it the Collectivist doctrine of unlimited majority rule, if we accept the idea that a majority may do anything it pleases, and that anything done by a majority is right because it’s done by a majority (this being the only standard of right and wrong) - how are men to apply this in practice to their actual lives? Who is the majority? In relation to each particular man, all other men are potential members of that majority which may destroy him at its pleasure at any moment. Then each man and all men become enemies; each has to fear and suspect all; each must try to rob and murder first, before he is robbed and murdered.

The American system is not a democracy. It is a constitutional republic. A democracy, if you attach meaning to terms, is a system of unlimited majority rule; the classic example is ancient Athens. And the symbol of it is the fate of Socrates, who was put to death legally, because the majority didn’t like what he was saying, although he had initiated no force and had violated no one’s rights.

Democracy, in short, is a form of collectivism, which denies individual rights: the majority can do whatever it wants with no restrictions. In principle, the democratic government is all-powerful. Democracy is a totalitarian manifestation; it is not a form of freedom . . . .

The American system is a constitutionally limited republic, restricted to the protection of individual rights. In such a system, majority rule is applicable only to lesser details, such as the selection of certain personnel. But the majority has no say over the basic principles governing the government. It has no power to ask for or gain the infringement of individual rights.

Where have these people been as the Clintons & Obamas have used the IRS to bring their enemies down time and again?

Maybe more of them need to experience what it’s like to be harassed by the government through Clinton-Obama directions, whether using the IRS, Justice, EPA, FBI, etc.

The Clintons perfected it. The Obamas carried on the legacy.

Liberals, and young ppl don’t have a clue.

Zack: Go stuff it you, as Dan Aykrod would say, “ignorant, stupid, and useless imbecile”, or something to that effect.

Hillary has broken a number of laws (as anyone who has had a security clearance or even just a background check knows).

She is also unethical, per her firing by the Watergate Committee.

Possibly committed either insider trading or stock fraud re the Cattles’ Future deal, Whitewater, etc.

She smeared a number of women who complained about her husband’s sexual predatory manners, including one pretty well acknowledged case (paying $670,000 to settle it is damned well an admission of some kind of sexual misconduct in the world I live in).

She has had gotten money from Organized Crime figures/labor unions (LIUNA, 1990’s) The American Spectator, Byron York, April 1997, on The Clinton’s Mafia Friends, as did the Democratic Senatorial Campaign, etc.

Hillary had a Cuban DGI asset/KGB asset as one of her personal friends and transition team members. Rumored that she was going to get Bill to nominate her to be Secy of Education.

Her Healthcare Task Force in the 1990’s was a “farce”, not a “force” because among the hundreds of people listed on it (I read the original documents), not one was a practicing private physician who could tell the Task Force what it was like to have a private practice vis-à-vis government forms, rules, regulations, and other types of business interferences.

Hillary’s foreign policies are all down in flames and cost American and foreign lives without having any successes.

She is a pathological liar and always has been all her political life.

Her daughter married into a family with her husband being a failed hedgefund investor/manager; his father was a convicted business criminal, and his uncle is a well known anti-Semite.

And Hillary’s husband is an adulterer par excellance but she took it in her unbridled quest for power. She is a combination of Madame Furtseva (USSR), Mrs. Cheddi Jagan, and Mrs. Ceaucescu. If you don’t know who they are, look them up.

Zack: Stupid, ignorant and a loser is no way to go thru life, but I’m sure you’ll stick with your winner ways.
