Russel Warns N. Korean Nuclear Capability to Kill Leader Kim

Anchor: Amid North Korea's continuous pursuit of advancing its nuclear weapons program in defiance of international demands, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Russel has warned that having the capability to launch a nuclear attack could mean the immediate death of leader Kim Jong-un. In some of his strongest words made against the regime yet, Russel argued that Pyongyang's nuclear program has only diminished the security of North Korea. Mina Cha has more.

Report: The top U.S. diplomat for East Asia has warned that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un may acquire an enhanced capacity to carry out a nuclear attack, but then he will “immediately die."

According to the Associated Press, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Russel told reporters at the Pentagon on Wednesday that the North's advancement of its nuclear ability will only quicken up its demise.

While sparking speculations that the U.S. may have a preemptive strike option on the table, Russel said that the situation can't be "plan A" for Kim.

Calling the North’s claim that its nuclear development is aimed to deter a U.S. invasion "absurd," the Washington official said the North’s nuclear program has only diminished the security of North Korea and Kim.

During the meeting, the assistant state secretary also reiterated his claim that the U.S. "reserves the right" to punish Chinese companies violating obligations under international sanctions on Pyongyang if Beijing does not take action.

He said although there is "frustration and differences of view" between Washington and Beijing, they are working together on North Korean issues.

Russel said the U.S. keeping its eyes wide open for evidence of any violations of sanctions on the North and is exchanging related information with China. Mina Cha, KBS World Radio News.

I am not sure why at this point China doesn’t take Kim out themselves and install someone more rational. Kim’s starting a war would screw up China and its economy as much as anyone.

China invaded Tibet and slaughtered the entire political structure. They moved tens of thousands of Chinese into Tibet to destroy its culture. They can do the same to NK.

So now this administration is threatening North Korea in addition to Russia.

In addition they have set off a gigantic fire in the Middle East, and given Iran free reign to advance their nuclear capabilities. Destroyed Aleppo and created one of the worst refugee crisis the world has ever seen.

I wonder how the Nobel Peace Prize Committee feels about their hasten award being given to Obama now. Stupid group of people.

I think that’s the problem. I think even from China’s perspective, Kim is off the reservation. China wants NK as a buffer state against S Korea / U.S., but even they don’t want a nut case running the place.

And who knows, maybe Kim is thinking his nukes can also be used as a threat against China if they make noises to remove him.

Sounds like they’re putting pressure on Kim again to watch his steps.....not so sure he’ll heed that though.....he doesn’t always seem to heed his advisers either.

NK is everything China wishes it still was.
I don't think the Chinese would care to invade NK like they did Tibet. Korea is the bump on the butt of Asia.
