Pluto TV, a free streaming service for cord cutters, raises $30 million more
TechCrunch ^

Unlike other online streaming services, which also cater to those who still subscribe traditional television, Pluto TV from the start has more narrowly focused on acquiring consumers who are abandoning their cable and satellite TV subscriptions. However, instead of offering on-demand TV and movies like Netflix, Pluto TV attempts to replicate the TV experience through online streams that you can “tune into” much like TV broadcasting.

You can get almost anything you like for FREE on Kodi(XBMC) with just a couple addons like Pear Tv and Exodus, or even still Navi-X

I cut my cable and you should too. The hardest part is making the call. You won’t miss it. I weened myself off with SlingTV and ended up canceling that too.

We watch very little TV. The time the TV is on the most is during grandkid visits. They want to watch cartoons and recorded Disney movies. We record about 4 shows to watch when in the mood and I like NASCAR but that’s it for us. We’d really like to eliminate the satellite bill but not sure how, or if we’d really save $$$ in the long run by going to something else.

Three years ago, I visited my granddaughter, who was three years old at the time. One day while her parents (my daughter and her husband) were out of the house, my granddaughter asked me if she could watch a particular movie. Alas, the TV set/entertainment center was so complicated I had no idea how to work it. Fortunately, I had my tablet handy, and using that, I found the requested movie on YouTube. Equally important, the tablet’s batteries did not run down before the movie finished.

Pluto is pretty good. They have a nice guide, decent lineup and you can’t beat free.

I just checked out the pluto tv app for android. The app wants permissions for my photos and media. There’s no need for that as far as I’m concerned, so I wouldn’t allow the install.

I have netflix on my phone and they didn’t ask for access to my personal business.

The area I live in is remote-the only game(s) in town are SAT TV, and SAT internet-no high speed/U-verse or anything else, and I’m lucky I’m close enough to a tower that my cell phone works most of the time. There is not enough population density to make the fancier stuff profitable, and there likely never will be-we voted in a moratorium on any further development several years ago-developers and transplant townies overuse and waste resources just like they do in cities-this is an area of small farms and ranches, so we can’t afford wasteful people playing country squire. I love the same solitude I grew up with, but there are tradeoffs like the TV and internet thing-I’ve seen the ads for SlingTV, but alas when I checked I was informed it was not available here at this time...

Yes. We only have one TV in the house. Living room. So at bedtime we frequently watch kids you tube on my phone until they fall asleep. It’s a good treat for them when with uz and allows me to have some resting time while they wind down.

We have similar experiences in our area. No choices on utility services due to low population. I certainly don’t want to trade country life for the city tho.

Neither would I-raised on a remote ranch, I’ve never liked cities, but had to live there when my husband was in the military, etc. I’m back now, able to make a living here and not leaving...

At least electrical power from a co-op is cheaper than power in the city-another plus...
