France has approved legislation to create a National Guard as the government struggles to battle the terrorist threat. The guard is expected to include up to 85,000 service personnel by 2018.
The law was approved by the Council of Ministers, a powerful executive body composed of senior officials, on Wednesday.
“The National Guard, these volunteers, both men and women, have decided, in parallel to their civilian lives, to join the military service for the protection of the French people,”said a statement on the government website.
Those who apply for the National Guard will be able to choose between army activities, serving in the gendarmerie (the police force that is part of the French Army), or working in the French police.

Let me guess, 15% of this protective force must be Muslim, and no one is allowed to “profile”.
Interesting, I never considered the fact the French or any other European country didn’t have some type of “National Guard” or reserves...

Time has come—nay, long past—that we, like France, should reactivate each state’s militia of organized citizens not only because of terroristic Muslims, but also Clintonesque criminal overstepping of bounds, BLM threats and actual rioting, and the like, so that an instant reaction force is always available under the law to suppress activist-instigated threats to our common peace.

If entrance requirements include drinking red wine while eating a pork sausage and then singing La Marseillaise, then this new French National Guard might amount to something.

The French citizens have long been disarmed. Now to protect France citizens must be rearmed as a militia. My thought is that this group will soon gain notoriety as ruthless hunters of terrorists who will be give no quarter to terrorists when they are caught or confronted.
The gimmick to this national guard idea, if you read through all the business around it....is that you’d easily be able to have a gun license and be allowed to carry a gun with you throughout the day. Typically, a hunting license was about the only way you could gain access to having a weapon and it meant you only carried it to the hunting area that you were going to visit. It opens up more doors for the general public to be armed and to confront any issues.
How many will join the national guard? Totally unknown. It might be a hundred thousand....it might be a million.

This is confusing. The “Gendarmerie” is the national guard of France.
