The legislation, which was sent to Mr. Cuomo on Tuesday, spells trouble for Airbnb. New York City is the companys largest market in the United States. The citys hosts generated about $1 billion in revenue last year, and the company took a cut of that amount in fees.
On Friday, Airbnb reacted with anger to Mr. Cuomos decision.
In typical fashion, Albany back-room dealing rewarded a special interest the price-gouging hotel industry and ignored the voices of tens of thousands of New Yorkers, said Josh Meltzer, head of the companys New York public policy.

Throw in crony capitalism and phony concern about low income renters and you have a nice socialist gift to lefty fatcats in NYC. Does Trump still have hotels in NYC? If so, he'll profit mightily. Why don't they say that?
Just one more reason I have New York AFTER Sierra Leone, Karachi, and Kibera of my places to visit.
It's also worth noting that the housing market in New York City is dominated by rental units and condos/cooperatives, and I suspect Airbnb is probably not permitted to operate in most buildings under the terms of the lease agreements and rules of these building owners/managers.
This is Trump’s fault?
What I mean is, the fact that no one mentions that he will benefit is telltale.
Cuomo is Big Businesses best friend and the enemy of the Middle Class. When will people wake up and realize the Democrats, who say they are got the middle class, are screwing them worse than the Republicans
For one thing, most of his properties in NYC are mostly high-end condominiums and apartment buildings, not hotels.
Secondly, his hotels are very exclusive "destination" properties. I did a search and found that rooms at the Trump International Hotel in NYC start at $595/night. Guests at hotels like this aren't the kind of people who would be surfing Airbnb for a cheaper alternative.
And you thought your property was yours!
A lot of people are forgetting who the property belongs to. Near my location, there is a proposition on the ballot to allow tenants to sub-rent out the property without needing the permission of the owner. Combine that with rent control laws used on the landlord, and any sensible person can see the problems. Landlord can't raise the rent, can't evict the tenant, yet the tenant paying low rent can advertise and rent it out at a higher amount and pocket the difference. Liberals are insane. They don't care who owns the property, as long as others can live off it without the hard work that goes into ownership and maintenance. All liberals should just die so we can have some normalcy in life.
