JACKSON, Ga. — “Put the guns down!”
The order crackled over a loudspeaker from two sheriff’s deputies crouched behind the doors of police cruisers, semiautomatic rifles at their sides.
Several middle-aged militiamen were toting loaded AR-15 rifles and 9-millimeter pistols at a makeshift checkpoint — two lawn chairs and a narrow board — on a dirt driveway in central Georgia. The men, members of the Georgia Security Force III% militia, grumbled but laid their weapons down on the red clay earth.
The brief standoff ended with an amicable chat, and the men retrieved their weapons the moment the lawmen drove away. But the episode further stoked the militiamen’s abiding fears that their cherished Second Amendment rights are under assault.

Here comes the “the militias are coming” articles..sign they are pretty convinced it will be Trump. I am sure SPLC ghostwrote this.
I saw this the other day, only the article I saw about it had a headline mentioning militiaS (plural, and armed at that). There was just the one group profiled in the article, and it’s just three guys. They let the reporters take their pictures with faces uncovered and made no secret of where they were or their intentions. In other words, they weren’t maintaining any kind of OPSEC. I had to wonder if they were just plants, ginned up for the purpose of smearing Trump supporters and possibly inciting like-minded groups to come out of the woodwork.
Well, if the reporting is correct, that seems like a stupid thing to do.
Yep, the Democrat base stirring rhetoric is now in full throat. Obama with the KKK stuff. Articles about White Trump supporters fearing loss of majority, now militia scare stories. Oh, and the Russians are backing Trump.
Yep, it’s all there.
Is there more to this story? I don’t want to click on the NY Times link...
I only wish that those who make these policies were the ones to come to confiscate the guns, not some guy just "following orders".
The checkpoint was on a DRIVEWAY, not a road.

Yep, I caught the driveway part...very odd...it just makes them look silly.
Not that there is anything wrong with that, as Seinfeld might say.
A checkpoint on private property is not a stupid thing at all. Plenty of places have checkpoints.
Also, if the militia men were not doing anything wrong (which is indicated by the fact that they were not arrested or cited for anything) then the sheriff’s deputies who threatened them at gunpoint for a lawful activity were themselves the only criminals on scene.
That I will certainly agree with.
The elitists on the Times board appear to think that this will be between armed men they send out, and the armed men at whom they send them. That's good, actually, because stupid targets don't dodge as well. If anything goes down because they pushed it, they're in play.
Isn’t that what the gun grabbers are always telling us the 2nd Amendment is “really” about?
