atest in N.C.: Group seeks extended voting in Durham

RALEIGH - The Latest on Election Day in North Carolina (all times local):

1:30 p.m.

The Southern Coalition for Social Justice is among the organizations asking that polls stay open an extra hour in Durham County because of problems there.

The coalition and other organizations coordinating North Carolina's Election Protection Coalition sent a letter Tuesday to the State Board of Elections asking that polls close at 8:30 p.m. rather than 7:30 p.m.

The request came after a computer problem resulted in elections officials relying on a paper check-in process, resulting in at least one precinct running out of authorization-to-vote forms.

And Trump is filing a lawsuit because Nevada is trying to keep polls open 2 extra hours....they must need the time to do some late hour stuffing ....

How many weeks of early voting did we have? I think we’ve given this election enough time.

One of the big ways they cheat. They wait until they get an idea of the numbers and then cart as many as they can in to cheat the vote.

They did this in Florida last time.

This should not be allowed because they have all had early voting available to them.

That's exactly right.

Not sure if you saw it or not, but yesterday there was a thread talking about voter ID demands.

A guy went to a university campus and asked Whites if it was racist to demand an ID before someone voted. The 'petunias' said sure it was obviously racism. It was too hard for Blacks to get to the DMV to get an ID. So he asked other questions. Why?

Then he went to a Black side of town and talked to Blacks asking them the exact same questions. Those blacks refuted everything the university students had said.

Folks who want to vote, will vote. Folks who want to vote are willing to show an ID.

Inferring otherwise is in some instance downright racist, especially when you start explaining why. There is NO why outside of racial stereotypes.

Total B.S. = fraud in progress.

FGS, it’s only 3:00 PM EST as I’m typing my reply.

I’m leaving my residence soon to fulfill my POLL WATCHING duty for 2 hours and trust me, I shall immediately and properly report any and every suspicious “voter” I encounter.

Just need to videotape all those entering the polling stations during this extra hour of voting.

All this talk about voting times reminds me about an interesting story of my youth.

It was Ronald Reagan. Only at the time I did NOT like Ronald Reagan, was a very, very stupid liberal, about 20 years old or so. That’s about 46 years ago.

Voting day was on Tuesday, even back then. I worked in the payroll department of Western Electric, a subsidiary of AT&T back in the day. On Mondays we got time cards. On Mondays and Tuesdays we coded the “assignment” cards for such as overtime pay, etc, then turned them in at the end of Tuesday to data processing to generate the paychecks.

We had to be at work at 8:00 in the am. We were told, brusquely, that it would be expected that payroll will stay around until all the assignment cards were coded, even if until late at night.

So I complained.

Who, me?

First, we had to be at work BEFORE the polls opened. The polls might have opened at 8 am but we had to be sitting at our desk at that time.

Second, if we had to work late that Tuesday until all payroll assignment cards turned in, who’s to say we would make it out of there in time before the polls close?

It’s not like we could run out and vote at lunch or anything in that many of us....MOST of us, lived too far away for that and you had to vote in your own precinct.

Heh.

So management had a big meeting and they decided that EVERYONE in payroll would be allowed to come in late, that we would be expected to vote then come in to work. This way we would not have to worry about working late. As it turned out, we got all the payroll done by normal quitting time and were allowed to leave. But we’d already voted and got about an hour from the company, free time.

Heh.

I am/was so proud of myself......nowadays I suppose the company might tell us to do that early voting thing, another dumb idea if you ask me.

Unless any variance decision on closing times is statewide then its sleazy, un-American, and should be considered fraud.

I’m not sympathetic. NC early voting went from Oct 20 to Nov 5.

This is no longer a crisis. There’s plenty of time to vote. If they can’t get there on time, then it’s on them.

Durham always claims to have problems.
I guess the unemployed people can’t get to the polls before 7.

I assume you reported this to Trump’s suspected voter fraud hotline, because, really that is what this is.

NC State is the next county over (Wake). Durham is home to Duke University and NC Central (a black college).
