Growing up in central Florida in the 80s, I had some friends whose parents were Americans of Cuban ancestry. I then moved to Tampa, with a substantial community of Americans of Cuban ancestry and a rich, visible Cuban heritage. I have seen several shows at the Circulo Cubano de Tampa (on Republica de Cuba Avenue) and have hung out with friends at the Parque Amigos de Jose Marti. As an impressionable teenager, I was struck by not only the knowledge of American civic culture these people shared (greater than that of many people who were born here and lived all their lives here), but also by their love of freedom and liberty and the sacrifices they made to ensure it for their children. Those impressions remain with me to this day.

The first time Democrats screwed Cubans was when Kennedy withdrew air support from the Bay of Pigs landing.

Everyone knows how important Florida was in this election...in this one and the previous ones. The big liberal cities, as in most states, have the population to control a state, in Fla. it is Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Gainsville, and in this election for the first time Tallahassee.

But it was the rural counties and small towns of Florida, plus the very anti-communist Cuban community, who carried the day for Trump. With only the “redneck” part of Florida, I doubt the outcome would have been as it was.

This is one FReeper who appreciates the contribution of our very anti-communist Cuban conservatives of Florida.

Due credit goes to Cuban-Americans who voted for Trump. Oddly, several strongly conservative Cuban-American friends whom I have known for decades went with Clinton for idiosyncratic reasons, but a Cuban-American friend who arrived in the 1990’s as a defector in a MiG was an ardent Trump supporter, as was his wife, whom he later smuggled off the island on a clandestine trip in a civilian aircraft. Orestes and his family are fine people, as are my other Cuban-American friends.

Ex cubans are some of the very best Americans. I have come to know several, living in Florida mostly.

They KNOW communism, they KNOW Castro, and they HATE both.

They also KNOW how good our freedoms are, and how precious they are.

Sure, “thank you” to the Cubans. “Thank you” to the Americans all across our country who voted for Trump. Of course, you Cubans can thank us for providing a free country for you to live in.

I am so very happy today. I am tired and I am certain that my heart doc would want me to take a nap, but I can’t because I am enjoying this happiness so very much.

I have not been this happy for at least the last 8 years. It amazes me of just how dangerously close we came to losing our country. I honestly think we were at the brink of a bloody civil war.

Let’s never forget that all we had to do was come together and vote. Those before us suffered horribly, including death, for us to have a chance at freedom. They sacrificed far more. I often think we should each ask ourselves if we are living a life worthy of their sacrifice.

It could have easily gone the wrong way last night.

Above all, I thank Almighty God for giving our country another chance. I do not for a second think it’s going to be easy to turn this country around, but we now have a fighting chance.

I just smiled again: DJI hit 18,628.31 — the highest it been in the history of the USA. Dow is up +295.57...a payday. ;>)
