I know they had some major issues, I believe with the front strut towers.

Read up on FJ fender bulges and tears. Not strut towers.

Wow ..... have a 88 hilux 4x4 pickup frames ok, a 92 FJ80, frames are ok, a 2013 Tundra Crewmax and frame “looks” ok. In the dryer Texas panhandle but the 88 pickup and FJ80 has taken me to Panama , Alaska, winters into Colorado, Canada’s Northwest Territory , the Yukon etc .... Surface rust in a few places that was checked, ground off and touched up with rustoleum products.

May take the Tundra to the dealer if the new ones are reporting a problem.....

My 06 cummins dodge 2500 4x4 will get a good look today.

There’s a steel mill in Monterrey. It’s also the supply source for creosote in the US.

“...had received inadequate rust protection,...”

You mean that stuff the dealership graciously spritzed on the bottom of my new Toyota...and then charged me an extra $600 under “dealer add-ons”?

“No sir, I’m sorry. But we can’t take that cost off. We’ve already rust-proofed your vehicle. And no, we can’t take off the document fee either.”
