U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) is slated to introduce legislation Tuesday which would eliminate the Electoral College, so presidential elections would be decided by the popular vote.
Boxer is expected to introduce the bill when the Senate comes into session Tuesday.
This move is in response to Donald Trump's presidential victory last week. The president-elect won the presidency through the Electoral College, although Hillary Clinton is leading the popular vote by nearly a million votes, a statement from Boxer's office read.
Trump won the presidency by securing at least 306 Electoral College votes while Hillary Clinton recieved 228 with two states still left to call, according to NBC News.
"When all the ballots are counted, Hillary Clinton will have won the popular vote by a margin that could exceed two million votes, and she is on track to have received more votes than any other presidential candidate in history except Barack Obama," Boxer said.
Trump will be the fifth president in U.S. history to win the election despite losing the popular vote.
"This is the only office in the land where you can get more votes and still lose the presidency," Boxer said in a statement. "The Electoral College is an outdated, undemocratic system that does not reflect our modern society, and it needs to change immediately. Every American should be guaranteed that their vote counts."
Four years ago, Trump called the Electoral College "a disaster for a democracy," in a tweet sent on Nov. 6, 2012.
Yet Tuesday morning, the president-elect sent two tweets conveying his support for the Electoral College.
"If the election were based on total popular vote I would have campaigned in N.Y. Florida and California and won even bigger and more easily," he said.
In a follow up tweet he said: "The Electoral College is actually genius in that it brings all states, including the smaller ones, into play. Campaigning is much different!"
If Boxer's amendment were to pass, it would amend the U.S. Constitution, and "would take effect when ratified by three-fourths of states within seven years after its passage in the U.S. Congress," a statement from Boxer's office read.

No kidding. The US Constitution is second only to the Bible as a work of near perfection and the Electoral College is the centerpiece of the genius engendered in that document.
What an amazing concept, elect representative to cast the actual ballot for the President to even out the influence of each of the several states.
Rural America and “Joe Sixpack” finally had his voice heard loud and clear.
If it was popular vote, there would be no swing states. Candidates would campaign in 4-5 states and ignore the rest and New York and California would rule the nation.

What we really need is for our Congrerss to pass law that will ensure "one legal voter - one vote". I'm all for photo-id voter registration for legal "citizen" voters and an absolute end to illegal votes. For all my Christian and conservative friends who oppose this sane measure, I ask, are you also opposed to photo-id on a driver's license?
Looking at it again, all the active states already voted for Hillary. The other two, MI and PA are legislative pending.

The POTUS is elected by the states:You might as well complain that a losing candidate in California got more votes for senator than a winning candidate in Wyoming did.

Actually, this approach might well get rid of some of the crazier members of the Senate. Would a basically pro-gun national electorate choose Chuck Schumer or Diane Feinstein? I don't think so.
Perhaps we could leave the present system in place but follow up with a nationwide election requiring 50% approval to seat any Senator. This might work.
If I recall correctly, both the House and Senate have the power to remove members. What a hoot it would be if the Second Amendment became so important to Americans that no anti-gunner would be tolerated by either the House or Senate. An anti-gun President would face immediate impeachment if somehow mistakenly elected.

The article was poorly written, but this sentence near the end makes clear that what Boxer introduced was a constitutional amendment to get rid of the Electoral College, which would be horrible for our republican form of government and will not be adopted by 2/3 of each house, but certainly eliminating the Electoral College via a constitutional amendment would not be unconstitutional:

I would just love to some analysis of the 6M+ plus who voted for Her Heinous in CA: wouldn't be surprised if a large % of them are illegal aliens.
