'It was arrogance' — Clinton staffers explain how she lost key battleground states

Hillary Clinton's campaign ignored pleas from staff members for the candidate to boost her efforts in Michigan and Wisconsin, two unexpected battleground states, The Huffington Post reported Wednesday.

The two states, considered safely Democratic by virtually all pollsters ahead of the election, swung for Donald Trump on Election Day, securing the Republican his shocking victory.

One senior operative told The Huffington Post that in Michigan, which Clinton is on track to lose by about 12,000 votes, her campaign's canvassing operation was one-tenth the size of Democratic candidate John Kerry's in 2004.

In Wisconsin, local campaign officials were forced to raise $1 million in last-minute get-out-the-vote funds after Clinton's national campaign declined to provide it, operatives told The Huffington Post.

Clinton's Wisconsin office also reportedly lobbied for the campaign to send African-American surrogates to boost Democratic turnout in Milwaukee. Clinton received 39,000 fewer votes in Milwaukee County than Barack Obama did in 2012, and she lost the state by about 27,000 votes, thanks to lower turnout in three key counties.

very good question. It’s hard to know what her talent is exactly. I have no real clue. She does have the ability to insert herself in positions or jobs where she gets high visibility. Even if she does nothing of real importance in said job. Her overwhelming ambition for money and power simply makes everyone else look squishy in comparison. No matter what she has had, it is never enough.

I hope all the concern trolls that spent months and months coming here to tell us that Trump couldn't win because of these blasted polls learned something from this.

That's for sure. They'll probably pretend it never happened.

Honestly, I think this is what the Media was up to the whole time. They knew Trump would likely win in a landslide if they didn't do everything in their power to suppress his vote.

They didn't accomplish dragging Hillary across the finish line, but they almost were able to. Even though their power has now been broken for all to see, they did have an effect. Indeed, they were a formidable adversary who came close to beating us.

Unfortunately, I don't think the Uni-party & Media (but I repeat myself) is ever going to let up, not even for President Trump.

By continuing to perpetrate their Tyrannical plans, the Globalist Establishment is simply ensuring that its ultimate repudiation will be of an even grater magnitude than hitherto.

We, The People, are going to have to metaphorically grind the Enemy's bones into dust and burn the remnants before we are rid of their ilk.

The good news is that entrepreneurial news networks like OANN are going to take full advantage of this apparently novel "journalism" concept.

On the other hand, the Dinosaurs who refuse to adapt will not only become even bigger laughingstocks, but many will become extinct altogether. The only thing that can prevent that is if they rediscover and reaffirm their traditional role as a watchdog of government, instead of being an agent for spreading its corruption.

This Revolution is far from over— it's going to be a constant battle against a well-equipped and well-funded enemy— but that's what "the animating contest of freedom" is all about. It was bought at a high price and, similarly, it will only be maintained and preserved at a high price.

This Revolution will either succeed or fail, but make no mistake: what we just accomplished was a peaceful, nearly bloodless Revolution. So far. But it was certainly a Revolution, and the sooner that the American People absorb that fact, the sooner we can bring the stragglers on board and start building a prosperous and peaceful American Future...

Could it be she was basing this on the same faulty/lying polls everyone was seeing? If so, the lying pollsters perversely caused her to lose the election. Is this a case of the left’s sometimes mistake of actually believing their own lies?

Yes, I for one did. And I am willing to concede all you here were right. I thought is was wishful thinking, but the polls, and Stossel’s election odds were horribly wrong.

She lost PA... Which was obvious from day one she would lose... So even if she had managed to save WI and MI... she still lost.

Your compelling analysis on Pennsylvania, which was quite convincing, is one of the few things that helped me keep the faith that Donald Trump could indeed win on the 8th.

Even if everything in PA didn't come in exactly as you said, you were spot on regarding the overall trend and in noting Hillary's vote ceiling.

I was pretty sure my home state of Florida would go for Trump, and once NC and Ohio showed the same trends, it became a simple matter of whether Trump would make inroads into the remaining Rust Belt states. Once that occurred, he was on his way to becoming the 45th President of the United States.

I'm still amazed at what the Media was almost able to accomplish, though. To me, even though their power was broken to a large degree, it's still a cautionary tale about how much influence they were able to wield, even in a losing effort. They prevented an even bigger landslide, and, combined with Trump's own weaknesses, of which there were several, his vote was significantly less than it could have been, IMHO.

Having said that, I'm utterly convinced that no other Republican could have beaten Hillary, all things considered. It wouldn't have even been close. After all, she had a vagina, and thus, with two Establishment candidates (whose policies would have hardly differed), that would have been the deciding factor...

Yep I agree. The race was close enough to not take anything for granted. I don’t think the Trump side ever did. There seemed to be a bit of last minute panic on the Clinton side when they actually did some campaigning in the final days though. The funny thing is once that was done their arrogance returned and thus the shock on election night.

The fireworks were rescheduled and moved to her private suite. Only her inner circle witnessed it.

Yes, I definitely underestimated the Democratic floor in PA... I based her vote total decline on the decline that Obama saw between 08 and 12... What I failed to realize, was Obama had pretty much given up most of the way to the floor from 08 to 12... so even though Hillary was FAR FAR less popular and enthusiasm for her was WAY WAY WAY below Obama in 12... there just wasn’t that far to fall for any Democrat.... Lesson learned, and I now know going forward.. that Democrats could put up Mickey Mouse and would get about 2.85M votes in PA.

However, Trump didn’t quite reach the 3M I expected... 88k shy.. but He did put .22M more votes in the box than Romney... and Hillary had to perform like Obama 12 to win... End of the day O’s 12 numbers would have beat Trump by I think 78k... she wound up losing to Trump by about 67k... at least by the unofficial count from the state.

FL was a tough one, the whole election was closer in the vote that I though it would be... HIllary did get higher than I though she would be overall... and Trump didn’t get where I thought he would.. I expect him closer to 65M than 60M... and Hillary got higher than I expected overall... But FL was really the only question in my mind election night... Without FL, if I was right about the upper midwest Trump would still win, but if he didn’t run the table, and I was off, he would need FL... The early voting patters and numbers reported out of FL, certainly seemed to indicate Trump had a better than 50% chance of taking FL, but you never know... so until FL was officially called, it was a race.. .once it was... I knew it was over.

I do attribute Trump not getting closer to 65M overall honestly to the media and the tape... Trump clearly was on the verge of breaking out in early October... the Tape release absolutely stopped his momentum in its tracks... I think easily cost him a few Million votes on election day. Before the tape he was on the verge of breaking it wide open, and October would have literally been spent lobbying for down ballot races... Which it turns out he didn’t even really need to do... Trump carried so strong he didn’t even need to campaign down ballot to carry the down ballot with him.

The intereesting thing in the popular vote, though, and I haven’t fully looked at all the numbers, really just haven’t been motivated to.. is Trump equally or overperformed Romney Nearly everywhere I looked... Except for Cali.. where he had 1.3M less votes than Romney... Wash and OR one was about 100k lower, and other was like 10k lower... Mass was another place where there was a big drop... 800k votes below Romney.. but that was Romney’s home state... that is also one of the few states Hillary managed to outdo Obama by a small margin. MD was 100k less than Romney for Trump..

So Trump gave up some big vote deltas in some deep blue states... but more than made up for them in other places.. What does that tell us? Well one conclusion could be... stop trying to be so moderate, maybe? Getting 800k more votes in MA, isn’t nearly as valuable as 220k more votes in PA... 1.3M more votes in Cali, isn’t nearly as valuable as 100k votes somewhere else. Having a candidate that appeals to the elite north eastern Republican is not nearly as important as having one that can attract voters in the heartland? Or maybe these deltas were nothing more than the simple fact that Trump did not have the same overall ground game going on that an establishment republican would have had... so states like MA and CA didn’t have the infrastructure a typical election would have had for an R... even though they would lose it.. but would have gotten more folks to the polls... I don’t know... but either way, its hard to argue with success.

So... Romney got more votes in states he could never win than Trump managed... Overall Trump didn’t put that many more votes into the box than Romney... but he put them in the box where the mattered. Now I do think, as I said, the tape harmed Trump... and I think Trump easily wasted 2-3 weeks with the Kahn nonsense as well that stopped his momentum dead.. and took him time to build it back up.

I think it is important to note, what we know about the left is, they will vote for a known criminal and traitor... without hesitation... which is beyond scary. They literally have shown they will put 62+M votes in the box for anyone with a D beside its name... no matter how corrupt, incompetent or inept. So R’s have to play smarter... Business as usual is over... we have enemies in our midst, and they are 10s of millions of dupes and useful idiots, who will ignore reality for their own political world view.

“The beauty of the electoral college shines brightly.”

Yes, and I submit that the Electoral College provision, Article II section 1, shows the profound wisdom of the Framers/Founders.
Throughout our Constitution, there are many parts that were also inspired by Divine Providence.

Agree. I suspect most of her staff wanted to se the sunrise the next morning. From what I have read, Mook took a beating that night.....hasn’t surfaced yet.

I'm thinking that a search part should be sent to Fort Marcy Park to see if they can find the body belonging to smart mouth Robbie Mook.

I too live in one of the WOW counties. Washington, Ozaukee and Waukesha Counties for your info / those living in Rio Linda. haa.

My friend worked the polls in Richfield.... said WAYYY heavy turnout. Our town, too was teriffic for turnout. Great stuff. Not many bumper stickers, but my yard signs were just fine. I have a Trump/Pence bumper sticker on my car.... no vandals yet... but can’t trust the left, you know. I live in the country and oddly enough the teacher family living down the road had a HIllary sign that has mysteriously gone away... ahem... since the big loss.

I still pinch myself. I was pretty confident, but very nervous. Still very excited.

I live in Ozaukee Co. and I only know of 1, or 2, Hillary signs around me. in Cedarburg, there were 2 Clinton/Feingold signs — shared billing. Must have been put out from the Feingold campaign.

But, my Trump signs were constantly stolen and/or vandalized — both at home in Mequon (out in the country) and at my business in Grafton. I managed to keep the large, more substantial, ones at the end. However, there was an attempt to vandalize those too. It looks like the perp was scared of my the smaller sign I attached saying that if he/she touched this sign they could expect to find their picture on the Internet. Ha!

Removed all bumper stickers from cars the next day because my husband was planning to drive out of state (through Illinois)

I don’t think either campaign spent much money on signs. I know it was hard to get them from the Trump campaign, and a lot of people bought theirs themselves. I bought my 2 big ones, so they are being saved for 2020.
