WSFA ^ | 11-18-2016 | CWW

Montgomery Alabama television station WSFA is reporting that President – elect Trump has offered the position of United States Attorney General to Senator Jeff Sessions. This would be an awesome pick. Senator Sessions previously has saved as a U.S. Attorney, as Attorney General for the StTe of Alabama, and as a Senator for Alabama for multiple terms.

On most idealogical points, Cruz is a good conservative. Agree he has personal foibles though. Always told my spouse, even while still supporting Cruz, that he would never be able to beat Hillary.

Long ago the Dems launched a "creepy" meme about Cruz -- I'd already seen this meme working with certain young conservatives I know. He wouldn't have had the force of personality to overcome this kind of attack.

Beyond that, I don't think Cruz has the kind of managerial experience needed to take on the job of AG at this point. Cleaning out the Augean stables at DOJ is going to be a Herculean task. Many vicious Holder/Lynch moles are embedded in the DOJ, and it may not be possible to root them out, at least not immediately. But for that matter, not sure Sessions has the moxie to get this done either, much as I like him.

We should offset this by putting out there that the Dems are going to claim everyone Trump selects to be:
Racist
Sexist
Misogynist
Homophobic
Islamaphobic

etc. We might as well beat the press to their own game.

-- Trump has tweeted to NOT believe any news unless it comes directly from him. --

That was said during the primaries, and in response to some particularly weird reports. The press, CNN especially, used that when his campaign put out an official statement that Trump believed Obama was born in Hawaii.

Just saying, there will be credible reports that don't come directly from Trump's mouth.

That said, a Team Trump spokesperson said exactly what you did, on the "offer to Sessions" report. There has been no official statement from ANYBODY on Team Trump, on this this subject. I think it is a leak from the Cruz camp.

Luckily the break between R & D in Alabama is 65% to 35% so its’s not a real issue.

Alabama

If there is a vacancy in the Alabama Legislature, a special election must be conducted in order to fill the vacant seat. The governor must call for a special election if the vacancy happens before the next scheduled general election and the Legislature is in session.[2][3] The governor has all discretion in setting the date of the election along with the nominating deadlines.[3]

That is such a strange thought. Cruz is willing to forgo principles for personal gain and you want him in the Supreme Court where he is untouchable? I wouldn’t trust him to walk my dog.

I'm befuddled why Mittens is meeting with President Elect Trump

It wouldn't surprise me if President-Elect Trump (I *do* enjoy saying that...) made Mittens the Dogcatcher in some out of the way place. Give him a job, shut him up, and get him out of the public eye.

Because Romney can always come back in 2020.... The GOPe would love to give Trump a serious primary challenge, I'm sure.

McConnell doesn’t know what it’s like to have his feet held to the fire yet. Trump is on this and Sessions knows where the leverage is kept.
The Senate better man up or else.

Geraldo had to slam The Donald right away in his segment this morning hoping he’d go for more diversity in his cabinet instead of the same “cranky old white guys”...the Friends were not amused. Congratulations to Jeff Sessions...wonderful choice!

Yes - governor selects to finish the term - no doubt they are aware of the need to maintain the majorities.

AGREE!!! GREAT CHOICE!!!

Other than Pence, this is Trump’s first personnel assignment to a position that HAS TEETH. In other words, the others are advisors or White House staff.

Sessions will run the JUSTICE DEPARTMENT and thereby have control over 100,000 people. If he lays off the investigations that Obama ran (into phantom terrorist groups, like the NRA), those people can be freed up to, guess what, START DEPORTATIONS.

But be ready for a HUGE FIGHT to get him confirmed. The left will not surrender this position without a fight.

And what happens to the Senate seat? Would the governor appoint a replacement for two years, until the next general election?

I think so. Some states have special elections to replace an empty Senate seat, but I don't think Alabama is one of them (though I could be wrong). Either way, Sessions' seat is "safe," it isn't as though the Republican governor will appoint a liberal in his place, nor will Alabama elect a Democrat. On the other hand, I doubt that the replacement will be as solid a conservative as Sessions, who is one of the best people we have in the Senate. I also doubt that Session's replacement would be on the same page on trade issues as Sessions, unfortunately.

This is EARTH SHATTERING DESTRUCTION for liberals. Sessions has spoken on the Senate floor against birthright citizenship for illegals, against DACA, in favor of cracking down on welfare use by illegal aliens, voter ID, and on and on. I preferred Kris Kobach who is younger and a very good communicator, but his Senate confirmation would be rocky. AWESOME choice. Watch as every single Obama policy on illegals, “civil rights”, consent decrees on immigration, etc go down the drain.
