Vanity - Need Help With a Campaign Contribution Question

Posted on 11/27/2016 4:36:13 AM PST by CarolAnn

I was perusing the Opensecrets for 2016 Presidential contributions, and I have a couple of questions:

First, why would a company called Renaissance Technologies give Hillary $14 million and also give Trump $15 million? Is it a cover their butts thing? Do they think they'll get access in return?

Second, Why would the US Department of Agriculture and the US Postal service be contributing to Jill Stein?????

Hope these aren't stupid questions. I'm not real familiar with campaign finance.

I would imagine they know that they will not buy access with Trump and gave him an extra million because they wanted him more than Hillary but also hedged their bets with a substantial access-buying donation to the corrupt one...

Are the contributions purported to be from employees (union members) or from the Federal agency budget?

I don’t know this for certain but I’d guess the donations are tax deductible.

US government agencies, which operate off tax money, should not be permitted to give donations to anything, period. This should be stopped.

Thanks for the link! I can’t even imagine having that much money. I’d have to feed a starving country or something. Sheez.

Jill Stein's Campaign Finances

While I can't be sure this 2012 list may offer an explanation as to who the real contributors are

Form the 2nd link above:

This table lists the top donors to this candidate in the 2012 election cycle. The organizations themselves did not donate , rather the money came from the organizations' PACs, their individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. Organization totals include subsidiaries and affiliates.

Thank you Robert. That answered my question. It didn’t say it was a PAC or anything so I was wondering

I suspect you are looking at contributions from employees of Renaissance Technologies, USDA, and USPS. Neither the company nor the government agencies could legally contribute to a political campaign.

I believe the election rules require a donor to provide the name of their employer.

Is that what you are finding?

It must be. It only gives the name of the company.
