Ohio State student identified as campus attacker, nearly a dozen hospitalized

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio State student drove a speeding car into a crowd outside a classroom building Monday morning, then got out and slashed at people with a large knife, sending 11 people to the hospital in what authorities said was a planned assault.

University public safety officials identified the student as Abdul Razak Ali Artan. Officials said they had no information on a possible motive and said that campus video cameras showed Artan was alone in the car.

According to Liberals, every terrorist attack is an opportunity to raise awareness about the dangers of Islamophobia. And since they think Islamophobia is such a serious problem, they welcome each new terrorist attack as a “teachable moment”. One can never be too vigilant about fighting against Islamophobia. So the more terrorist attacks there are, the more tolerant we can all become.

Maybe if the terrorists blow up an entire city, it would inspire enough outreach to Muslim Americans to completely rid ourselves of Islamophobia. And if that city happens to be Portland or Seattle, then all the merrier!

I expected a reply like that. Despite its reputation as a four-year vacation from reality, college is very stressful for some people, and suicide is not rare among college students. So, you get a foreigner on this huge, impersonal campus, he's a Muslim perhaps with a chip on his shoulder, maybe he's not doing well in class, so he snaps.

I was certainly not suggesting that every student reacts the same way to stress, or that his particular circumstances automatically led to his behavior, much less justifying his behavior, just trying to put it into some sort of context.

As with any murder or attempted murder, there is always an element of mystery about why certain people - out of many in similar situations - make the ultimate choice to commit murder.

But perhaps your explanation is simple: he's a Muslim, case closed. But then you need to explain why most Muslims don't do the same thing.
