When Obama wanted to address the nation, he would call the networks and the cable news for an hour or so during prime time. He would preempt favorite shows, arrive late, drone on and on.

Sure, because Obama probably had the media in the next room the whole time. Trump knows that the media has the same bosses as Obama, and opts to send out his communications unfiltered by the elites.
It worked; he will be our next president.

It would not surprise me at all if Trump continues to use make use of whatever media works best. Why patronize the networks that tried to destroy him?
