Colorado electors plan to challenge state law in bid to derail Donald Trump's victory
The Colorado Springs Gazette ^ | December 3, 2016 | Rachel Riley and The Associated Press

Four of Colorado's nine Electoral College electors plan to challenge a state law that would prevent a long-shot bid to keep President-elect Donald Trump out of the White House.

Robert Nemanich, of Colorado Springs, said Saturday he and three other electors intend to sue Colorado's governor, attorney general, secretary of state and state Democratic Party chairman claiming state law requiring electors to vote for the presidential and vice presidential candidates "who received the highest number of votes at the preceding general election in this state," is unconstitutional....

It’s time to remove the idea that electoral college votes have to be actual people.

I fully agree with you!

Uh Colorado went to Hillary so how could they derail anything? Just like the Washington Electors or Oregon electors. What are they going to do vote for Jill Stein? Wait wait I know they will vote for Donald Trump that will fix him.. LOL

A president and vice president from opposing political parties have not been elected in more than 200 years.

Untrue. Lincoln and Johnson were of different parties.

“If we're successful, there's going to be unrest."

Understatement of the century.

The 12th Amendment specifies that, if nobody gets a majority of electoral votes, then selection goes to the House, which gets to pick from the top THREE candidates.

I think the plan is to challenge Trump’s victories in WI, MI, PA, so he just has a razor thin lead, then flip a couple of his electors, and a couple of Hillary’s electors, to a third compromise candidate, that House RINOs and Dems can agree on.

Flakes, all. They’re all Hillary electors. Unless they plan to switch to Trump?

Not a good idea. Actual people as electors prevented a President Aaron Burr, an ancestor of Al Gore, with a comparable megalomaniac complex.

“There’s no precedent for this,” Nemanich said. “If we’re successful, there’s going to be unrest.”

The understatement of the year. IF successful, there is no place on this planet that you can hide. Even Bin Laden was eventually caught.

What’s the point exactly? CO went for Clinton.

A federal court win would give cover to RINO #NeverTrump electors in other states to flip. I think in most states, the electors were appointed by the state party, not the Trump campaign. Trump's electors are not necessarily loyal to Trump.

Doesn’t matter if Clinton won Colorado. Sounds like the electors what to decide who’s president-not the people.

Our elections are breaking down.

Even IF WI, PA, and MI are delayed, Trump would still have 260 electors. And I’m not a constitutional scholar, nor am I a history buff, but if you want to feel better, do a user search for LS. He’s posted about this ad nauseam. If the votes aren’t certified by the deadline, then the state legislatures, which in this case all 3 are in Republican control, can appoint the electors. Plus, it would seem that there would be a significant legal case to be made that a person receiving 1% of the vote cannot disenfranchise 3 states worth of voters.

Another nothing burger “story”. Cankles won Colorado.

Why this crap gets posted in FR these days astounds me. Seems some folks want to keep the Hand-wringer’s Association busy.

“Not only are they trying to flip Trump electors and block Wisconsin and Michigan, but some Hillary electors are also planning on voting for someone like Romney to give the US House a NeverTrump person to vote for.”

Oh goody. Some extra BS for the Hand-wringers Association to work with.

Puleeze. Trump won. Get used to it.

state law requiring electors to vote for the presidential and vice presidential candidates "who received the highest number of votes at the preceding general election in this state," is unconstitutional....

Obviously have no idea of what the 10th Amendment is or that States have been given the right to deal with this as they wish, else all States would have exactly the same rules.....

I do not get the point of these stories. None of these electors in these stories are Trumps anyway. The only harm these electors do is to Hillary. There is a huge reason for these misleading stories....I really want to understand what the reason is.

More moonbat liberals. These idiots have to vote for Hillary, so how they think they are derailing Trump seems to escape them.
As you are well aware, the United States is/are a republic, not "a democracy." And it is the states, through the “appointment” by each state of Electors “in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct,” which elect the POTUS.

By tradition, the legislatures all direct the popular election within each state of all Electors. But note, in the Nebraska Plan (also used by Maine), only two Electors are elected statewide, and one other Elector is elected within each Congressional District.

The Constitution does not say, or suggest, that the Electors shall be committed to a particular political party (which the Framers abhorred and hoped to avoid the development of in America) - let alone that the Electors would be committed to a particular individual. So, as unpopular as the concept is, the clear intent of the Constitution is that the Electors be chosen for their wisdom rather than for their servility. And be independent actors. But, obviously, that is not the way the public wants it - and if you tried to amend the Constitution to make it sound like what you assume and want, the likely result would be the passage of an amendment which switched over to a straight popular vote - and the states with the most illegal immigrants in them would elect the POTUS.

The reason these “moonbat liberals” want to be free to vote for someone other than Hillary! is simple - they despise Trump, but Hillary can’t win.. So they seek to logroll for someone other than Hillary or Trump. And the existence of the #NeverTrump faction within the GOP gives them (faint) hope that they can pull that off.

But in fact, of course, these Electors were nominated to be servile cyphers who robotically vote for Hillary. And, had she won, those same Electors would’ve been the first to decry any such attempt by Republican Electors to derail Hillary! in favor of, say, a President Bloomberg (which I think you would agree would be at least slightly less awful than what would otherwise be the only alternative).

Finally, the real scandal of the conceit that the Electors should logroll for a fusion candidate in this case is the fact that at least one of these “wise elder statesman” faithless Hillary Electors is only nineteen years old!
