Things aren't looking good for Sears. The company is shutting down dozens of Kmart stores this month and two of its highest-ranking executives left this week in the midst of the key holiday shopping season. This comes following speculation among Sears and Kmart employees, suppliers, and several banks that the retailer will soon go bankrupt — something Sears has repeatedly dismissed. Jeff Balagna, formerly Sears' executive vice president, left the company Wednesday, "in order to focus on his other business interests and pursue other career opportunities," Sears said in an SEC filing dated November 23.

"Now that Craftsman tools are made in China,..."

I didn't know that. That's a shame.

An American icon, Sears has been around since 1886, 130 years and used to be the place for middle-America to shop for everything you’d expect from a department store. However, this is the destruction part of Capitalism, where ‘Names’ will die because they are no longer relevant. In my youth, I’d love to look at the Christmas Sears Catalog for what I could beg from my folks. (Still remember my Dad telling me that those spring-bottom shoes aren’t the magic that I thought they were!)

Now, they, like others, will leave those iconic stand-alone store buildings that have been converted into other uses. And the ones attached to the malls, well, those malls aren’t what they were either!

Now that Craftsman tools are made in China, I have no reason to ever shop at Sears again.

Yep. Craftsman were once the best amateur tools available.

Sears stores in my area are places that simply don't come to mind for day-to-day typical shopping.
I cannot recall the last time I said:
Hey, we can go to Sears for that product. They will have a quality selection from which to make a choice."

The last time I went to a Sears was 8 years ago...At that point said would never go again. Bought a TV...mind you the closet Sears to us is over 90 miles away.

Took home the TV...broke within 2 hours. Drove all the way up there. Some punk kid tells me I cannot return the TV.

Told the kid....you are very confused, you are giving me a refund right now. Kid tried to tell me again....well I got the refund. kid probaly will never forget me. LOL. I am sure I ruined his day.

The S&R and Monkey Wards catalogs had the ladies undergarments section... That heralded the loss of innocence once upon a time.

SEARS screwed up big time. They were the Amazon of 1920.

They had it all catalogued.

No different than Motorola.

Chicago has some bad mojo going on.

It is a shame. For example, Stanly Tools have been made in China for some time. The factories that employed these workmen are long gone. A crying shame.

Beginning in 2010, hand tools manufactured for Craftsman by Apex Tool Group such as ratchets, sockets, and wrenches began being produced overseas (mainly in China although some are produced in Taiwan), while tools produced for Craftsman by Western Forge such as adjustable wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers and larger mechanic tool sets remain made in the United States.

The Sears in my old town in Cali had food stains on shelves from people dropping food while shopping.

K-mart...well it was filthy from day one.

Moving their premier tool lines to China while still charging Made In USA premium prices was an even bigger mistake especially since the Chinese tool quality was obviously worse. Also, it was K-Mart that bought Sears in an attempt to keep K-Mart afloat.

The level of stupid exhibited by Sears management transcends administrations - as others have noted, the ship has been sinking for 20+ years.

I don’t shop in those stores any more either. Online shopping is just so convenient - and a lot easier on my knees.

Sears had moved to China long before then - Craftsman stuff was often made by Danaher prior to 2010 and Sears told them they should move their contract work to China. Apex is a relatively new contractor.
