I got a detention for finally turning around and punching the @-hole who had tormented me for a long while after he again pulled my books out of my hands and threw them on the floor. He didn't get a detention. In a switch, I broke his glasses instead of having mine broken (again).

I was never again bothered.

Something similar here. A group of self-styled toughs in leather jackets were spitting on younger kids on the bus.
I told him to stop.
The next day waiting for the bus felt something hit my leg. I walked over to him and wiped the spit from my leg on his shirt, his punch went over my right shoulder. I cleaned his clock.
The secret: punch but don’t get punched. d-uhhhh

Hauled us all to the auditorium. Stern lecture. The tough had an epiphany and attitude adjustment.
This kid should have taken his best shot. The principal/teacher was way off-base.

Criminal charges need to be filed against the bulliers. I was bullied in 8th grade. I survived. It didn’t involve physical contact though. It was 55 years ago so no one thought anything of it. My best friend basically implied that it was my fault.

What really pissed me off, this was on my high school transcripts that I needed for college. I broke his sunglasses too, that was my first returning shot, then I lifted his sorry ass up and threw him in the opposite bus seat. Bailing hay in my youth obviously had become useful.
Still, the one defending himself is punished, only in a progressive worldview, Effing bastages.
