BREAKING NEWS - Mistrial declared in Michael Slager murder case
Have another trial.
Who is Michael Slager?
2016 is turning out to be a great year!
A white South Carolina police officer accused of murder in the shooting death of black motorist Walter Scott.
Who is Michael Slager?
*************************************************
The shooting of Walter Scott occurred on April 4, 2015, in North Charleston, South Carolina, following a daytime traffic stop for a non-functioning brake light. Scott, a black man, was fatally shot by Michael Slager, a white North Charleston police officer. Slager was charged with murder after a video surfaced contradicting his police report. The video showed him shooting the unarmed Scott from behind while Scott was fleeing.
The case was independently investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of South Carolina, and the Justice Departments Civil Rights Division are conducting their own investigations.
In June 2015, a South Carolina grand jury indicted Slager on a charge of murder. He was released on bond in January 2016 and a trial began in October 2016. In May 2016, Slager was indicted on federal charges including violation of Scott’s civil rights and obstruction of justice.

If it was 11 for conviction and one against then I'm sure they will retry it.
How? The guy was running away from the cop....
Jury nullification?
No surprise about that. I wonder what the makeup of the jury looks like?
Well, the video is horrible. I don’t think we want to set the precedent that it is fine for the police to shoot you in the back if you are (barely) running away. I don’t think the man would have made it more than 20 yards before falling on his own. I get it, don’t resist arrest, and I never would, but it appeared to me there was nobody else around that this man could have endangered. What it looked like to me was that the officer didn’t want to chase him and just shot him instead.
There will be a new state trial and there will be a federal trial.
shot a guy . . . in the back . . . 9 times . . . from a distance . . . as he ran away from him . . .
bound to be against some law or other.
Serious? Even I thought that one looked really bad!
Remember OJ? Nothings a given.
They over charged him.
They should have charged him with manslaughter.
Pretty sure he will be convicted federally...
Then picked up the taser(?) they had fought over, and dropped it near the body.
I watched the video when it first happened.
That was 2nd degree murder, at a minimum.
