Time Urges 65 Million Americans Who Voted For Hillary Not To Pay Taxes
Revolution Radio ^

Posted on 12/06/2016 12:54:02 PM PST by TigerClaws

Under the twisted premise of losing the popular vote and “no taxation without representation”, TIME’s Mark Weston proclaims that the approximately 65 million Democrats who voted for Hillary Clinton should pledge “we won’t pay taxes to the federal government… until democracy is restored.”

Because, It’s just not fair?

Twice in the past 16 years, a Republican candidate who finished second in the popular vote has won the presidency. This year, Donald Trump won the electoral vote with about 46% of the popular vote, while Hillary Clinton received about 48%. If the parties stay this evenly divided, another electoral mishap is more likely than not in the next 20 years.

Most Republicans are quite content with this system. Appeals to fairness have not persuaded them of the need to amend the Constitution to establish direct presidential elections, preferably with a runoff if no one wins 50% of the vote. Nor does the real chance that a Democrat could win the presidency with fewer votes than a Republican alarm them. Even the taunt, “Are you afraid of a direct election? Can’t you win a straight-up vote?” doesn’t faze them. Democrats must, therefore, pester Republicans where it hurts: the pocketbook.

Is signing a pledge to not pay taxes legal? Yes, if no overt act of conspiracy is involved, and the pledge itself is hypothetical. No one knows when or if it would be carried out.

A national movement not to pay federal taxes in the future would put Republicans on notice: they do not have the right to impose a hard-right, second-place presidency on a moderate nation every dozen or so years. If the Republicans won’t help amend the Constitution so that America can resume being a democracy, then Democrats, lacking the representation that supporters of a future popular vote-winner ought to have in the executive branch, should not submit to paying taxes to the federal government.

I believe I heard 2.6 million Trump voters on the West Coast didn’t vote because they knew Trump was going to win.

That’s my story and I am sticking to it.

Right.

Those are known as being like ‘jobs created or saved.’

Votes not cast are still votes for Trump, but 2.6 million didn’t show up to the polls knowing that their vote either wouldn’t count or Trump would win anyway.

I TOTALLY AGREE with this...

Liberals should not pay taxes this year, so they can all be exposed to the fines, penalties, and criminal enforcement actions of the IRS!

A little Karma can go a LONG WAY to reforming things.

65 million multiplied by zero is still zero.

the majority of Dems already don’t pay taxes, so I’m not sure I’m seeing the big threat here ...

Or how about: anyone who voted for Hillary! doesn’t get ANY federal benefits? No child care credit, no food stamps, no subsidized rent, no subsidized college loans, no medicaid, no medicare, no SS. Methinks it would more than offset any failure to pay taxes by Hillary! voters.

By and large, the majority of people (real and imagined) that voted for Hillary aren’t taxpayers anyway, but net recipients of other peoples’ tax dollars.

Reddit/r/the_donald has a policy of using ARCHIVE so that they don’t send their readers to anti-Trump fake news sites.

Might be an idea for FR!

Go ahead and stop paying your federal income taxes. See what happens. There are two parts of the Federal government that are efficient, the military and the collection division of the IRS. The IRS can almost squeeze blood out of a turnip.

This could be a way to pay off the national debt of $20 trillion.

Maybe Time should look at the penalties and interest charged.

Great idea. Although a significant number don't actually pay any taxes, surely there are enough of them to take care of the "no taxation without representation" thingy:

26 United States Code section

Sec. 7201. Attempt to evade or defeat tax Any person who willfully attempts in any manner to evade or defeat any tax imposed by this title or the payment thereof shall, in addition to other penalties provided by law, be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not more than $100,000 ($500,000 in the case of a corporation), or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both, together with the costs of prosecution.

That would make them ineligible to vote in most states, except maybe Virginia.

Great idea!

I feel for my Democrat brothers and sisters as they languish in their existential misery over the loss of Hillary Clinton. I offer this to ease your pain. Print out the following and place it on your wall and remember. Second place isn't all that bad.

That is an interesting point. The Republic was structured with certain anti-democratic safeguards, including the Electoral College.
