Disgruntled Democrats Want A Constitutional Convention To Leave The Union

On Tuesday, disgruntled Democrats held a forum to discuss the possibility of replacing the Electoral College.

Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) conceded that Democrats could not get rid of the Electoral College due to the way the United States Constitution is written.

“I don’t think we can sustain our American democracy by having the majority ruled by the minority. And so the question is how to fix this since the Constitution is written in such a way that it’s almost impossible to amend,” Lofgren said.

Lofgren went on to say she is open to a Constitutional Convention, “We are three states away from calling for a Constitutional Convention. It’s something I’ve always been opposed to, …. But I’ll say because, for the second time in sixteen years, people the American voters elected did not become president. Rational people, not the fringe, are now talking about whether states could be separated from the U.S., whether we should have a Constitutional Convention. And I think as time goes on that is apt to become more the case unless we here can figure an answer to preventing the majority from being ruled by the minority.

I wish they would leave the US and move to China.

Convention of the States IS NOT THE SAME AS A Constitutional Convention
Same results with a different name.

You can't undo the 17th amendment without amending (re-writing) the constitution. Nor can you dictate what the agenda items would be in a Constitutional Convention Convention of States. To think otherwise is pure ignorance.

“...the question is how to fix this since the Constitution is written in such a way that it’s almost impossible to amend,” Lofgren said.

Except for the 27 times it's been amended already.

She needs to go back and retake high school civics. These people chose this way, they use arguments that have no basis in reality.

first thing the states need to do is repeal the 17th amendment to get power back in balance with the Federal Government. Killing the 16th should be next, replacing it with a new amendment based on a sales tax written in a way which limits growth to the change in population and inflation, and include a balanced budget provision.

Return the Senate to the control of the State Legislatures and cut off unlimited money from the Federal Government, and it can quickly be brought to heel.

As individuals, they can leave any time they want.

Go ahead.

All you Democrats leave the Union. Get some of those blue states held hostage back to liberty and Constitutional law.

“I don’t think we can sustain our American democracy by having the majority ruled by the minority.

I'm sure she has no problem, though, with the idea that the president of the entire country should be selected by the coastal counties of California.

I look at the map and wonder: "Where are they gonna get their gas?" or better: "I wonder what they are gonna eat?"

They get to keep Washington, DC which means they get the federal government complete with all of Obama's executive orders too.

Maybe the federal government will give them fuel and food.

Or they can purchase what they want from the red counties.

If they can find someone who will sell to them and if they have hard money, not federal reserve notes, to pay for it.

So the Democrats want to secede again...like that worked so well for them in the 1860’s.....! Well this particular group of Demmies can take the west coast and shove it as far as I’m concerned. Let them feed their new “neighbors” from south of the border and rebuild themselves when the big quake hits!

No, but they could very well get what they want via Convention of the States. Be careful what you wish for!

What sore losers. If Hillary had cheated her way to victory no way do the Dems talk about abandoning the electoral college.

The Democrat Party has been so diminished in recent years — and about to get much worse for them — that a convention of the states would not appear to bode well for the Left.

If we split California north and south. How would that work out?

Typically, 3/4 of the people did not vote for whoever happens to be in the White House at any given time.
1/2 don’t vote and the other half is split.

So, shut up about the minority.

Whichever party that is in power is always the minority.

Let the democrats have all of the blue counties and the rest of us will have to manage with what is left.

Based on rampant voter fraud, I suspect that a large proportion of those blue areas are actually red. Stuffing the ballot box is not the proper way to vote yourself out of the Republic.

She’s just angry because unlike gay marriage or abortion, there’s really no way to change the EC into the PV under the auspices of some penumbra or emanation.
