Hours after Donald Trump promised to kill the Air Force One procurement program, Boeing Chief Executive Dennis A. Muilenburg spoke with the president-elect on Tuesday, promising to work with the new administration and to keep the costs of the program down, according to a person with knowledge of the matter...

I am beginning to believe Trump is far far far smart then any of his foes. I think we are going to be surprised at the depths beneath his public persona. I, for one, can see I vastly underestimated him. Only time will tell.

Good strategy for him. If he is this aware and concerned over only a few billion dollars, they know he will be very attentive to the big numbers.

“EVeryone knows most government contractors gouge the government because they can.”

People ignorant of government contracting ‘know’ that.

There are VASTLY more rules on government contracts than other sorts of business dealings. A lot of the fault lies with the government for agreeing to bad contracts. They get stuck for only as much as they agree too.

Many government contracts go the opposite way. The government asks for all kinds of extra stuff and ‘scope creep’ and if the contractor does not push back they end up giving a way a lot of extra work ‘for free’ because they don’t want to lose the over all contract.

I wonder will Boeing—instead of building two new VC-25A replacements based on the 747-8I—will just end up rebuilding the two VC-25A’s with winglets, new GE GENx engines, and upgraded electronics instead.

“There is simply no way each plane should cost the same as a fully equipped destroyer.”

That is a false premise. Most of the gear on a DD is off the shelf. The costs for the development of those items are spread across the fleet, or parts of it. A lot of the gear going into AF1 is custom made just for that platform. So deployment costs are higher.

In the 70’s there was a huge so-called scandal because hammers and toilet seats were being bought for $100 or more. It has always been my belief that the hammers cost about $3.00 but missiles cost millions - and that was the way the money was provided.

I know that we are currently talking about the 0bama administration where nothing he says isn’t a lie. Yet, I don’t know if the boy king has anything to do with Boeing defense contractors.

Of course, I will stand with whatever Trump decides. If the Secret Service really needs something - they will get it.

Here’s a hint to the Boeing CEO......convince the Trump team & USA Airforce to purchase two B787-9 aircraft, to be uded as Airforce One aircraft.. The B747 is now, an aged, inefficient aircraft. The B787 is the latest and greatest and is far superior to any B747. The B747 was fantastic in its day, but its best days have passed!!!

The B787 is large enough to cover any POTUS travel need that arises, it can be made into a very long distance aircraft, and would be much cheaper to operate on short runs. In fact Boeing should sell a couple of B737MAX aircraft to the airforce to use for POTUS “domestic” short halls. Obama & his family have screwed the American taxpayers royally, by misusing the B747 on flights it was never intended to operate on!!! But...Obama, could care less about the American taxpayer...he only cares about himself, and taking care of the illegal, criminal, druggie, immigrants that drug & kill our innocent citizens!!!

I think we are going to see a lot of trump calling out those who have been gouging the country. the media saying how awful he is for doing it and then the media eating crow when dats later what ever country thought they could get away with gouging prices decides that they still want to make money so they come back with a better price on the item...

I look at theses two planes 2 billion a piece for a total of 4 billion dollars and I just have no way of knowing what the actual cost should be and I think 99.99 percent of the population would not have a clue what the cost of the plane should be...but like most I no the contractor Boeing is shafting the American people at that price.

Yeah, the Policy of charging TWO BILLION DOLLARS for ONE Airplane and the same for an Identical Airplane.

Hopefully Trump has a Boeing BOGO Coupon.

Serious question, why does it take eight years to build two 747-8’s, even with all the necessary equipment and upgrades AF-1 requires? The 747-8 Airframes are already being produced and delivered for $340,000,000 each. The upgrades are an additional $1,660,000,000 for each Aircraft?

We built Bridges, Dams and Skyscrapers in a third of the time, and that was 80 Years ago.

From now on we shall call him minor-Major Garrett.
Calling him Major just gives him undeserved seeming authority.
Hey minor-Major, shut your pie hole!!

Probably boeing begging Trump to go easy on them when they pack up and move over their operations over to china.

Trump should make in no uncertain terms that the cost of doing business out of communist china will be far higher than staying in the US.

“Major Garrett misreported and lied that Trump cancelled the order because the Boeing chief disagreed with Trump on a policy.”

Cancelled? He’s not even president yet.

IIRC, this year Boeing inked a deal to sell jetliners to iran. Don't a whole lot about it, or even if it was approved; but if it was, maybe President Trump should re-visit such an apparently major error of oversight as well.

To: MNJohnnie; All

He’s been doing “under budget and ahead of schedule” all his life

Here, 25 - a quarter century ago - being called in to testify to congress on how to get them out of the mess they had gotten our country into - .....

Nothing he says/does today is ‘new’ or for show. He’s been ‘practicing’ for this job for decades without knowing it.

Cache these videos and post them everywhere - forever...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rksd80-FCAw

and again -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsP89haGyoI

and still

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkeEq0zDbdE

Stock up on the popcorn this is going to a great ride. And after he gets the country back on track - it’s going to be nigh impossible for anyone to tear it apart again...(especially since the Clintons, Obama’s, Soros, Pelosi, Reed, etc - will be ashes in the dustbin of history. And clinton, Obama, must be held accountable for their crimes - to prevent their spawn from rising up. think Chelsea running for ‘first woman Pres.)

There is waste on both sides. I happen to think most government contractors do, or try to do a good job. I think congress has a buy list that has nothing to do with what is needed and more to do with making sure their constituents get a piece of the pie

I don’t know how to fix this, I hope Donald Trump does. The one thing I think needs to be done away with is Davis Bacon.
