Barbara Boxer has torpedoed more legislation than shes helped pass during her four terms in the Senate. Before retiring for good (literally), the Bay Area Democrat is trying to sink a water bill that could provide modest relief to farmers in Californias parched Central Valley.
Congress plans to vote this week on bipartisan legislation that would authorize a variety of water projects including port dredging, reservoirs, fish hatcheries, lake recreation and wetlands restoration. The package also includes $120 million to fix Flint, Michigans corroded pipes and other aging municipal water systems.
Yet Ms. Boxer has blown a gasket over a rider inserted by House Republicans and her Democratic colleague Dianne Feinstein that would direct the Departments of Interior and Commerce to operate the pumps in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta at the maximum levels allowed by law. There is no place for that as long as I am breathing, Ms. Boxer declared.
After five years of drought, Californias Central Valley is desperate for water. During this years El Nino, farmers south of the Delta received a mere 5% of their contractual allocations. A half-million acres of land have been withdrawn from farm production, and groundwater tables are dangerously low. Unemployment exceeds 9% in the Valley.
Even amid heavy storms, only 852,000 of the 5.5 million acre-feet of water that flowed into the Delta during the first two months of this yearenough to sustain nearly two million acres of farm landwas sent south. The rest drained into the San Francisco Bay due to a lack of surface storage in the Sierras and pumping restrictions ostensibly intended to protect endangered species.

So stop breathing, you decrepit ho.
CA needs to stop wasting money on high speed rail and get busy building desalination plants...look at what Israel is doing and follow their lead on this.
You know, in principle that's not a bad thing.
In practice however...
"No water for you, Stupid!"
While I recognize that it's not germane to the dumber-than-a-Boxer-of-rocks issue, what do local water issues, including replacing water pipes, have to do with Uncle Sugar?
“There is no place for that as long as I am breathing, Ms. Boxer declared.”
Perhaps something along those lines could be arranged. She’s pissed off so many people in the valley, and she’s destroyed generations of people’s livelihoods.
100%
Here is a wonderful graphic for anyone interested in seeing the state of all of California’s major reservoirs.

You can click on the reservoir name and see a further graphic of how the water has been accumulated and released over each year from present going way back in time. Boxer is a fool! As you can see SoCal gets the bulk of it’s water from the North, and now, when the Northern Rivers are running full due to the seasonal rains, if we don’t impound that water now, it’s gone forever. I am not a fan of SoCal. That area has become a Mexican $hit hole, but the Central Valley farms need water moved to them because they feed the entire country.
I’m a little surprised someone in California hasn’t killed her. There are billboards on the highways attacking her for the devastation she has caused to the California agricultural sector.
It would be fitting if she was “brain dead” (oops...she already is in fact) and they pulled the plug and STARVED her to death with no HYDRATION like Terry Schiavo!!
She doesn’t need to worry, when she assumes room temperature there are many here who will make sure her headstone is properly watered.
Sounds like a simple solution, to me.
She should threaten to hold her breath then.
LOL
This explains why Feinstein didn’t show up at Boxer’s farewell party.
“Don’t call me ma’am.”
The two leftist states on opposite coasts, have the 4 leftist Senators. Boxer & Finestein and Schumer & Gillibrand.
In one of her many final interviews, she described politics as a noble profession. What she means, of course, is that politics is a profession that allows the unbridled acquisition of unearned money to the extent that the elected thief can be elevated to the party of nobles. Still, it’s hard to believe that she thinks she has enough money that retirement is a possibility.
