Sounds horrible and a terrible loss, obviously.

But I’ll wait for more details before convicting the police involved.

I was wondering about SWATting. More info on this handy witness might be useful...

Not to excuse the cops, but if a family wanted to do away with a family member who was suffering from dementia and rake in a lot of bucks while doing it, SWATting might be a way to go. More info on the phone call that was made and the wit who ID’ed the victim would be interesting.

Looks like a nice residential neighborhood. Plenty of swimming pools in the area. I am guessing the neighbor didn’t know the fellow or knew that he had dementia.

You are correct. Police work attracts a lot of bad actors - many good ones still around though. I have a good friend who was personal detail SS for Nixon, Wallace and Ford and he says the same thing - hiring cops is a box of chocolates, a mixed bag.

Could this have been a SWATTING incident? Perhaps the caller is more responsible than the cops.

Yes, it could have been a swatting incident. The police must consider that possibility, and they must be held responsible for their actions.

"responsible" = answering for

“you don’t have to be a cop basher to count the number of bad shootings that have occurred over the year——

How many?

And what would justify even tasering this man?

“And? Because some dumb ass thinks they see someone with a gun the cops are supposed to just show up and start firing like it’s the old west?”

Exactly my thought. OK, I understand that as a cop when you have an (anonymous, likely) report of someone with a weapon, you want to be careful. Although I would think you would approach every situation, regardless of whether or not a weapon has been reported or seen, with care. And by the same token, just because someone has reported seeing a gun, you don’t want to make assumptions about what is going on.

Since when does accusation of obeying the Second Amendment of our Constitution become justification for assassination by police.?

(Yeah, I noticed it was in the Peoples Republik of Californica...)

“Man with a Gun call”.

My Brother used to carry his .22 Rifle to School back in the 50’s, and this was Long Island, NY.

Nobody panicked. When did we cross the line that just carrying a Gun made you a threat to Society?

WTF?? He clearly wasnt armed..

...

With perfect hindsight from your easy chair.

The article says the police got a call about a man with a gun and that the deceased had dementia which was getting worse. That’s all we know for now. There are no other details about what happened at the time of the shooting.

Jeez! I wasn’t asking for a spiel. I was answering someone’s question about why they thought he had a gun.
Over reaction at its best.

It’s a decent neighborhood. I live about 2 miles from where this happened.

When police arrived, a witness pointed to a man in the driveway of a residence. An officer fired several rounds at the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.”

“Now there are cops that are good, most are good.”

I no longer buy that excuse, since they never turn in the bad cops, instead the so-called “good cops” always lock elbows to protect the bad cops.

I have been trying to explain that to people. When “good” cops just stand by, and when “good” prosecutors let the case get away without trying to prosecute. It makes all cops look tainted. There is nothing wrong with a few manslaughter charges on cops that pump 9 bullets into an unarmed 73 year old.

And don’t for one minute tell me the prosecutor in South Carolina did a good job against the cop who shot Walter Scott. There is no way that prosecutor was trying. Its this kind of stuff that fuels BLM. I blame the “good”cops that don’t turn in bad cops, and Prosecutors who don’t try to convict bad cops for the cop killings out there. They own a small part of those killings.

“Something doesn’t add up.” “I’m thinking there’s a lot more to the story than isn’t being reported here.”....

I agree. There needs to be some careful questioning going on and I would start with the person who reported that there was a gun. A suspect that someone didn’t like someone else or what that old mad did on his regular walks. Reporting that he had a gun and there you have the start of something that went terribly wrong. I smell a rat in there somewhere, police just don’t go around shooting old people for fun.
