Their voting record will be a bad predictor of future behavior if they are opportunists. Voting along with the other Dems when Obama was president was a no brainer.

But with their survival at stake in two years will they wage war against Trump (and lose) or play nice?

I can see the Dem senators from Indiana, Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania cutting a deal with Trump now, just like Manchin.

Manchin is a man of principle and a politician. The principle is that you have to stay viable as a politician, and formerly Democract-lock WVa has been so screwed over by the Dem Party that he has to make nice to Trump, or the voters might take notice.

“Vote maybe, but there aren’t any “Conservative” or even “Moderates” in the Dem caucus that switching parties would make logical sense.”

A state with a democrat senator that goes overwhelmingly for Trump would make it logical for a senator who wants to be re-elected. Here in Louisiana, all the democrats turned Republican when the state turned hard red. Most are RINO, for sure.

Offer Manchin John McCain and/or Lindsay Graham’s seniority position on key committees to switch to GOP

Do you suppose the fact that Trump won West Virginia by 42% (a margin second only to Wyoming) have something to do with it?

And not only that huge margin but I believe he won every single county. That's pretty darned impressive.

Haven't seen a county map yet, but I do know ObaMao lost every county in West Virginia, Oklahoma and Utah in 2012. So it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Remember, West Virginia was one of a mere handful of states which voted to re-elect Jimmy Carter in 1980. You can look it up!

I can't figure out why he switched names: from Mancini to Manchin.

I heard that he might switch. Manchin is from an increasingly Red state, so I think he will either retire or switch and then retire.

I can’t really see there being a dramatic shift in their voting habits. There certainly weren’t under Dubya. They run a serious danger if they move even slightly to the right (say from 90% left to 80%) because they’ll get primaried. They’re not likely to increase support from GOP voters and they can’t afford to alienate their base, either.

You might get the IN Senator to move a bit, but he was a fluke winner and owes his election to RINO Lugarites. But Nelson in FL, Sherrod Brown in OH or Casey in PA ? I can’t see them budging. Brown especially is the hard-left standard bearer of Ohio politics. He’s going to face a rematch against Josh Mandel, and this time it’s Mandel that is going to prevail.

That’s Louisiana where you had some actual moderate or center-right Dems. You’re not going to see any party switchers from any of these others (save Manchin, and he might not). None of them would survive renomination in a GOP primary if they did, not with a 90% leftist voting record a year or so before they switched. Principled switching is one thing where they’re out of step with the national party, not opportunistic switching.

Probably a good point, but it was Republicans, including Jindal, who helped elect our present democrat governor. Some by endorsement, others, like Jindal, who did it under cover.

Oh, I don’t absolve those backstabbing weasels who worked to undermine Sen. Vitter’s candidacy for Governor. I was glad to see one of the main culprits, Scott Angelle, go down in flames last week in the Congressional runoff.
