Democrat Manchin Going AWOL With Plans To Support Trump Nominees

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., extended an olive branch on Thursday to his Republican colleagues and the incoming GOP administration, stating he would have no personal issue confirming Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., for attorney general.

"I know Jeff Sessions. Jeff is a friend of mine and I would say I would support Jeff," Manchin told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Thursday evening.

Manchin also plans to vote for Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson as secretary of state.

"He's a tremendous person. Now they said 'are you worried about Rex because he might have a relationship with Putin.' I said 'I hope somebody does because we haven't been talking to the Russians and I'm concerned that we don't have any kind of rapport with them whatsoever,'" Manchin said.

Manchin had been under consideration for a post in Trump's cabinet. He was criticized by outgoing Minority Leader Sen. Harry Reid for expressing a willingness to help Trump in the Senate.

Good, Manchin will give us some breathing room if McCain/Graham decide to play their little #NeverTrump games. Also I wouldn't be surprised if other democrats join in, if I recall, there are about five democrat Senators from hard red Trump states up for reelection in 2018.

Do you suppose the fact that Trump won West Virginia by 42% (a margin second only to Wyoming) have something to do with it?

I would not be surprised if some of them became Republicans, or at the least voted with Republicans.

We need him to stay in the Senate to offset the likes of Angus ‘de’ King and Susie Collins.

Vote maybe, but there aren’t any “Conservative” or even “Moderates” in the Dem caucus that switching parties would make logical sense. Manchin comes closest, but his voting record (as of 2015) was still 2/3rds leftist. In 2nd place was ND’s Heitkamp, and she was about 84% leftist. Everyone else in the Dem Senate caucus is in lockstep between 86/88-100% leftist.

He may become the leader of “Trump Democrats” in the Senate helping the larger Trump agenda.

Angus earned a perfect 100% moonbat leftist rating from the ACU in 2015. RINO Collins got an execrable 79% leftist rating (declining from 56% leftist in 2014). She still has a lifetime rating of 54% leftist because she used to vote a bit better. She could easily switch parties if she wasn’t in New England, but because the Dems would consider an 80% leftist rating to be to the right of Jesse Helms these days, she’d never survive a Democrat primary composed of Stalinists like Chellie Pingree.

The very life of West Virginia is at stake and is far more important to Manchin than Democrat games

It’s easier to go with a prez that has your back...not so easy to go against one that will call you out with a tweet

Many of these guys are going to have to break with the party, or, find a way to change it.

Of course not, I'm sure that it is only a coincidence. /s

West Virginia needs to dump this last lone Democrat survivor. I believe that he is up for reelection in '18.

Manchin has been a disappointment. He sees which way the wind is blowing and votes accordingly. No principles. Still, the wind in West Virginia is blowing Trump way and that will help with people like Manchin

Straighten up your deplorable ACU voting record (Times one votes to uphold the constitution) and you might get an invitation to join the Republicrat Party. We’ll need to decertify Susan Collins and Lind-say Graham to make room for you. They should be voted out of the club.

Manchin knows he’s in second place already for 2018 and the GOP doesn’t have a candidate.

I’m thinking a lot of D’s that are up for re-election in two years may think the wise move is to not support the D position in lockstep.

He won’t be the only one. I think that the majority of Trump’s cabinet picks will confirmed pretty easily. But they are going to have contentious hearings and any skeletons they may have in the closet will come out.
