Ditto. That is the way it was when I graduated high school 40 years ago and when I entered the service a few years later. The high schools in my town are all integrated. The kids that finish high school aren't going to have any problems getting along with one another.

I'm as white as it gets. My ancestry is traced back to a place that was labeled as such because there people were so white. Beyond 1,000 years of whiteness in my family now. Yet the latest generation really went big for lovely morenas, asians and other interesting ethnic groups. Now we're a big, conservative rainbow. As a teacher/professor I never had problems with white kids like I had with black and tan kids who felt they were entitled to have A’s because they were black and tan. It was astonishing. The troublemakers (of course not all black and tan kids were troublemakers) would scream and clench fists about how racist i was. The more benign I appeared the more furious they got.

Of course eventually I was called before some of the PC graduate faculty for being insensitive. I asked if the solution meant I should just give them a grade? If the black and tans refused to do the work assigned, was the alternative not an F? How was I to evaluate them? Oral exams? I had over 200 students plus my graduate students. Of course as soon as they experienced an oral exam everything I said was on the invisible line of insensitivity. Interestingly, no black student would encage in oral Q&As as part of the in class learning events. The tans would as would the whites. We had a good time as the blacks sulked.
